Octavia engine overheat error message

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

We recently had the temperature regulator on our waterpump changed. This was in response to an engine overheat error message combined with gauge showing high temp. Now it's been fixed when we drive a ways, first the temperature goes up to 90 but then a little further on it goes over 90 but not into the red and then goes back down to 90 where it stays. Is this normal?

I think this is the waterpump regulator cutting in in much the same way thermostats used to pop.

Any comments as to what normal behavior is much appreciated. It's a 1600 diesel..

Sounds like a faulty pump to me. How old is your car?

I would go back to the dealer.

Once the engine warms up the temperature gauge should stay in the middle unless you really going for it or towing something.

Sounds like the regulator didnt fix the problem. The water-pump sleeve/impeller is a common/known issue on the Octavia.

There are many users on here who've had the same problem & I believe the complete water-pump was replaced with a new/improved part.

THanks for your comments everyone. The final conclusion was as follows:

I had a new VAG waterpump temperature regulator assembly fitted which permently cured the problem. We found that just changing the regulator didn't cure the problem, Probably because it was a pattern part.

Before fixing the problem would manifest about 7 miles out for the record.

An engine overheat error would be displayed and the temperature Gauge would go over the half way mark.
