Infotainment Columbus - SatNav instructions

Featured Replies

Is there a more comprehensive user guide than the Skoda Infotainment manual available?  I am finding the SatNav incredibly inflexible e.g. you can only input a house number if a junction is not available.   If a junction is nearby the system prompts the user to select it but the b....y junction could be a significant distance from the destination.

How do I assign a destination to Favourites; but then again why do I need Favourites when I can store the destination in the memory anyway?

This unit is, IMHO, far too complex for its own good.  With my old Kenwood DNX520VBT I could just input a postcode and then select the road and house number.  To do so with the Columbus unit I have, by not entering the last two characters in the postcode, sometimes been able to enter a house number.

I have just purchased my 2 year old Octavia and didn't choose the Infotainment unit.  I've still got my old Kenwood unit and if I can't get to grips with the Columbus soon I'll rip it out and fit the old unit which had far fewer features but at least it was easy to use!

The Kenwood won't fit. Unless you can find a way to split the front face from the rear end and hide half in the glovebox, while grafting the screen into the dash. That's how the Columbus fits in your car.

OK so I'd better try harder with the Columbus unit:sadsmile:

I've not had much chance to use mine as it's in the wifes car. I still us the Earlier Columbus in the Yeti.

You can enter Postcodes into Columbus, can't give you the step-by-step but the options definitely there.

Think you just click on town then the postcode option is there. Can definitely do it on mine

I think I've figured out the postcode limitations are due to the fact that many/most minor road names are not on the mapping system so it's not surprising that often the only option when searching by postcode the satnav prompts for a road junction.  That is hopeless as most people won't know the location of any junctions - that's why they're using a satnav!  I've never come across a satnav that doesn't have this level of detail.

How can you feedback to the Columbus map providers the need for all street names?

This, amongst other reasons is why I usually use Android Auto on mine with Google Maps.

Sad really when I've got the £1000+ Columbus option and my phone does it better.

I have the latest maps and firmware on my Columbus and minor roads are named. The only ones not named are a few in the countryside that are not named anyway. What version of firmware and maps do you have?

I've just recently bought this secondhand car. The version number is V03959800MD0098 ECE 2015

I find the satnav not all easy to use compared with the Kenwood unit I had in my previous Octavia.  The Columbus doesn't seem to be able to use the contacts from my Android phone - I think it's something to do with the vCard format?

That map is at least 2 iterations out of date, I have ECE 2018 on mine and 0411 firmware. The contacts from my Nexus 5 phone sync and work perfectly on my unit. It is relatively easy to update your maps and firmware, there are many threads explaining the process and the files are available by PM from a variety of users.

So, I have 2014 Columbus & can't find a postcode search.

I have RTFM, without learning any more.

Am I missing something??

Input new destination and instead of typing out a town name there's a button in the bottom left of the screen with postcode (or an abbreviated version). Tap that and you can then enter a postcode.

If I enter 'New Destination', the screen offers Country, Town, Street, House number.

Bottom left is a 'Last Destinations' Box. No postcode option that I can see!

Is my 2014 version (I have just bought the car) in need of an update?

PS Thanks ahenners, but guess mine is behind the times, or I am being a muppet!

Select country first, then you will see the postcode box in the bottom left corner

Not sure, in the pub at the minute far away from the car. Will double check the full process tomorrow, I just do it without really thinking about it.

Should definitely be possible though, mine's a 63.

@geordiebloke is spot on.

Select country, type u & UK comes up with a postcode option in bottom left-hand corner as per @ahenners earlier shout.

Thanks a million guys!

Just feel it's odd & a shame to have to enter your country before accessing the postcode option. But, I guess it's an international / Europe-wide system.

Either way, once again Briskoda provides the answer.

Cheers all,

Dunc

An update must sort this surely... I never have to select country first

So, I have the car at the dealers on 8th June, so will ask about Nav updates.

Still in warranty if that makes a difference?

You can do the update yourself via the Skoda Update portal (not currently working) or there's a recent thread with the newest maps and download links.

Just a case of downloading them to an SD card or USB drive and uploading into the Columbus unit.

Ok, thanks. Yes, I did read that elsewhere.

Will get there! Whenever you buy a new (to you) car, there's always a few weeks of getting everything sorted til your totally happy with it!

Overall very happy so far - 12 days in.

Ok so I was wrong... I do press into town first to get to the postcode entry. Just do it without even acknowledging! :)

Ok, great. Glad mine doesn't need an update urgently.

Cheers bud.
