Autohold/handbrake intermittent fault

Featured Replies

I've had a Mk 3 150 Business for 15 months. Since new we have had an intermittent auto hold and parking brake fault. On some occasions it won't release from either, sometimes it won't stay on. Once it started doing the exact opposite of what it was supposed to do. Also had problems with stop start not working and key memory for seat position not working. All these are intermittent faults and handbrake works 85% of time. Has anyone else had similar. We have had it back to dealer but it hasn't logged a fault and they can't do anything unless it happens to them. Had Skoda assist out when we first had it but technician was not familiar with the new system.

I've very rarely had the issue where the handbrake/autohold has come off when bringing the clutch up in neutral - ie when stopped and the start/stop should kick in.  Once it does this it's a hard fault seemingly until the car has been left for a bit ie overnight.  As I say, this is a rare issue, and in nearly 16 months of ownership it's happened maybe 4 or 5 times.  Haven't got Kessy, electric seats or anything like that so can't comment on that.

My thread on this is:

Yes, this is driving me mad. Handbrake locks many times per day/week and it's really annoying and also dangerous as I've nearly been hit from behind a few times. I've had it in the garage 3 times and nothing shows up on the diagnostics. The dealer admits they've had quite a few in, but have found nothing. Really happy with the car otherwise, but now considering selling as I'm getting nowhere.

We are having exactly the same issue on the handbrake front. Going in for the second time today after we tracked and noted the incidents. Will likely go through a formal complaints procedure as its a real issue sitting in traffic on the M25.

Will shout if we come to a resolution.

Had exactly this problem with my 2.0l Ambition. took it to my local dealer who informed me there was a software upgrade required to rectify the fault.

all good since

I have a B8 Passat, and never had a problem as you describe.  Mine went into VW last week for the engine cutting out as I set off and it had this software upgrade.  It now appears to be very 'grabby' when setting off.

No faults in diagnostics, but very unsettling as it happened again this morning on a busy crossroads controlled by traffic lights.  It does not then restart for nearly 2 minutes.
