Octavia MK3 1.8 TSI DSG Battery change

Featured Replies

Hello,

I own a Skoda Octavia MK3 1.8 TSi in India which has just completed 3 and half years. While one battery has already been replaced on the vehicle, the second one is on its way out too now. I wanted to know if I could get the battery replaced with an aftermarket one, not from Skoda dealership? Does the Octavia DSG need to have coding done to the vehicle after a battery change? The car doesn't have the auto start/stop as that is not an option you get on the Indian market. Would like someone to guide me on this.

TIA

Bharat

New batteries do have to be coded in, to tell the car what capacity and charging rate is it.

Seems strange its going through batteries every 3 years or so. Do you have a lot of accessories draining it?

It seems to be a problem with the OEM battery the company is providing. It has gone through 2 batteries in the past 3 years which is unusual. Never happened on my MK2 TSi. And no, i have no accessory that is draining it added on to the car.

Update: Took the car to Skoda and they said that the Indian spec cars are having issues with the batteries, especially the 1.8 TSi. Got it changed under warranty luckily.

Hey Bharat, this is not unique to 1.8TSI, i own a Aug 2014 2.0 TDI and the battery gave up on me in April 2016 and now again this morning. Appears like there is some very basic battery management issue
