High performance and economy?

Featured Replies

Frequently getting 40+mpg from mine with a stage 1 map (only 288bhp) - I have seen as much as 45mpg on a 50 mile trip.

Can't really argue with it to be honest - much better than I'd have got from a Megane 275 (the car I almost bought).

Tell me more about this stage 1.5 map. Who's is it?

I'm getting around mid to high 20s in my 230 by the way. Short town type journeys only mainly.

Great work, the fact 50mpg is still attainable even with a map knocking on 300ps is even more awesome!

Mine's standard (for now!) but can only echo the mpg comments. It's not difficult to get a figure of at least 40+ on anything more than a short trip. Also finding the onboard computer very accurate to within 0.5-1.0 at the very most. It was actually 0.3mpg pessimistic according to the last calculated fill up.

My best for a single trip was just under 50mpg, and I'm determined I'll see over 50mpg average at some point for a single trip. Rarely ever travel under perfect traffic conditions though and trying to consciously eke out every last few mpg is tedious.

I had the ACC set to 67mph although there was a few stretches of annoying road works on route.

Based on other's reports I'd say you are getting about 5 to 7 mpg improvement over a standard 220 driven similarly at ~50mph average speed. That is pretty good.

But why 67mph and not 70?  and is that speedo speed (which is probably a lower true speed) or GPS speed?

Edit: Just saw @ahenners above and his standard 220 is only just behind yours so maybe your consumption benefits are not as much as I thought.

When I bought my 230 with ~2000 miles on the clock, the max it was doing was around 32mpg - maybe up to 34-5 on motorway journeys. Obviously during the running-in process and various times 'playing around', I expected it to be roughly that.

6 months later and with +7000 miles on the clock, it was regularly doing 35mpg. Putting on the APR carbon fiber induction kit added another 2, so it's currently on about 38mpg average.

Yet to add a new exhaust system on in July, and then have a custom map sorted - so we shall see what the results are after then, no doubt. From the evidence above, I'm hoping for good numbers!

You went for a long slow drive.  averaging 52mph is not quick so why are you surprised with 50mpg?  you do not have 300hp and 50mpg..... one or the other but not both at the same time.

Average was 52 as it included some around town driving before I left.

ok I'll change the post

"I can choose between 50mpg and 300bhp with the same engine/car"

i think most most people got the idea......

I know which I'll be plumping for well, wben the wife ain't in the car !!!

Ok, only had mine (220) 2 1/2 weeks but now want a map......

I love the adrenaline rush of Sport, but I also like to drive frugally at times too.

35 mpg is the best I'm getting on a reasonably lengthy trip (okay, I can get 40, but only when properly babying it).

The chance to have 270-280bhp (really, Stage 1????, perhaps for a 230, I'd be happy with 250) and get well over 40mpg on another day does appeal!

Wow, Shark saying 285bhp & 332lb ft for Stage 1 on 220.

At £499 I need a group buy or a discount......

Their 25% off just ended at the end of May. They do this from time to time so keep an eye out for the next one :)

I remember their regular offers from my time considering a map for my MkII. Ben added BT for me but I didn't bite the remap bullet.

I'll wait for the next deal and strike!

Just need to talk SWTSMBO around......

STAGE 1 = map only

STAGE 1.5 = map and high flow CAI

STAGE 2 = map, high flow CAI and exhaust (normally high flow cat)

for me the filter just just adds a little grunt lower end and allows the turbo so spool quicker.

the OEM airbox is pretty good as it goes though.

mine is a high flow pipercross filter, in a custom made airbox with a modified air scoop

TBH I'd love an exhaust on the vRS but after driving my friends brand new 310ps AUDI S3 I want that exhaust!!!!!

My map is quite aggressive, the guy who had the S3 had a go of mine and agreeed - the torque was much more aggressive and punchy than his S3.

his AWD is just so much better though, think I'm going to add the polybush for the lower engine mount next - stop the horrible skipping and tramping under wheel spin

So is it a custom map to take account of the higher airflow? Who's map is it? As you're saying it's aggressive I'm guessing Revo or APR?

According to their Facebook page they're offering the discount until this Sunday ... as long as you book in for some time during June they'll honour the price.

Mine's a Shark map and couldn't be happier!

well, I don't know what I'm doing wrong but my 230 averages just over 30mpg, best ever 35mpg on motorway , I find 50mpg hard to believe...

I'm considering this too - I think the cast metal one (034 Motorsport) seems to be the to go for according to the MK GTi guys. Something to do with less vibration and better longevity.

How many miles have you done? Mine improved significantly after roughly 10k miles ... Only on 12k at the mo so I guess it may improve further. Happy with it as it is though.

done 1400 miles in 6 months so may take a considerable amount of time to get to 10k!
