Courtesy Car

Featured Replies

This is my first service with a main dealer, all my old sheds have been serviced by the chap round the corner. Would i be entitled to a courtesy car? I am looking to book the day off or half day whilst they carry out the first service.

Thanks

Yep, get there early though. I got a citigo, felt like Lewis Hamilton in his go-karting days...brilliant for parking though as opposed to my estate lol

You can ask for one. Usually have to book well in advance. As for 'entitled', no, you're not. Like I said though, book early enough in advance and you can usually get one. Failing that, they may do a drop off and collection service (of you, not your car). That's what I opt for. I think its a bit of a waste having a dealers courtesy car sitting in my works car park all day or on the drive if I'm working from home.

Most dealers should but as above be prepared to book quite a bit in advance (few weeks) if you want one.

Thanks, not entirely a wasted day, gives me a chance to sort out my fishing gear whilst the kids are at school

My dealer offers a free** pick up and drop-off service. I can choose from where the car is to be collected and I've had it collected from both work and home. (I've never been farther than five miles from the dealer, so that may be a factor.)

** - There's never been an obvious charge... which probably means that everyone having their car serviced by the dealer is paying towards it. :)

Some of them also charge you for it, some insurance charge, and you have to replace the fuel used. Also the latest I've heard is a £10 charge for insurance excess waiver if you bumped the car.

Differs from dealer to dealer.

In effect you're doing a bit of free advertising for the dealer by driving round in a car branded with their details. Last time I had a courtesy car they didn't charge me for the XS waiver even though I asked about it.

Depending on your insurer you may be entitled to drive it on your own policy, I was as Aviva grant a few days courtesy car insurance within my policy
