Tricks 'n' Tips for new look.....

Featured Replies

At the top of the page, look under the buttons for "user cp", "calendar", "members", etc.

In the box to the right of the "Welcome xxxx, You last visited:" you will see 5 small blue squares.

These are temporary buttons and do the following:

Button 1 - Opens your buddy list.

Button 2 - View new posts

Button 3 - Mark all forums read

Button 4 - Log out

Button 5 - Search

Add extra helpful stuff below! :D

i find if i put my cursor over the thread title the first post is displayed (dont know if this is meant to be though)

and how can you change the text under your username i cant find the option to do so probably being thick though! :)

The icons below each post allow you to post replies in different ways.

The "Quick reply" box at the bottom will remain obstinately unresponsive unless you click on the "quick reply" icon in one of the posts above. This is the small hook shaped icon between "Edit" and "Reply". I think this is because the forum no longer allows you to post a quick reply without it being in response to another message, in order to retain its threading capability.

So - to summarise - icons below each post (left to right)

1. Little arrow - indicates whether poster is online now

2. profile - view the sender's profile

3. send pm - pm the sender

4. email - email the sender

5. search - search for posts by the sender

6. buddy - add sender to your buddy list (does anybody use this  )

7. reputation (tick and cross) - vote on post to enhance/diminish sender's reputation

8. edit - edit the post

9. quick reply - reply to this post using the quick reply box

10. reply - reply to the post, quoting the original text (like the old quote button)

I posted a reply in this thread but it immediately disappeared - hmmmmm???

Edit: found it as a completely new thread - got to work out this "quick reply", "reply" stuff ... :(

Control Panel -> Profile -> Custom User Text :)

Couldn't have put it better myself. Still all under construction though, so don't try this blindfolded ;)

You want me to merge the thread into this one? Gives me a quick test of that functionality too ;)

Alex,

It may be the case that you don't have the ability to change it for some reason - it can be turned on and off by those "up high"...

so i have to slaughter a small chicken to redeem their favour?

Oh great ones i eagerly await your response

You know I never noticed that...old system was great, new system is mind bloggling, give me a few days can make this work very very well...

Anyone else noticed that you now get a groovy thumbnail of attached images? :D

(And you can't attach a file you've already attached in another post!)

Hmm. Starting to get the hang of this - although I think the "threading" aspect will make all posts previous to the revamp look a little strange in the order!

However, I do have a question on a point I can't figure out: on the left in each post, just next to the post count for that user, there's a little rounded box which is either grey and says "user is of an unknown quantity" or green and says something like on a distinguished road. Most people are grey, a few are green (Dennis?!?)

What does that mean? Can't work it out.

If you click on the button that features a tick above a cross under a post (bottom right) you can "score" an individual post, and add to, or detract from - the "reputation" of the poster...

Not sure what it does really, except show how others feel about you :)

That only brought up a dark grey box for me...

And I wanted to leave a nice insulting mark against your reputation, Steve... :D

Control Panel -> Profile -> Custom User Text :)

Not on mine its not

Mavrik,

re custom text, only appears on users who are:

> 172days registered OR

1000 Reputation OR

500 Posts

This is a rolling scale, doubling each time, facilites appear (custom text), but after that it's normally extra sapce, eg PM folder to reflect the fact that most 365 day users are into the high 200's for PM stats, some into 500.

.......Not sure what it does really, except show how others feel about you :)
I've not noticed any people feeling about me yet. But there again those most likely to try it on are not on-line at the moment. Time to beat a hasty retreat and walk the dogs.

It's your reputation...

As such it could go up or down, say for eaxmple somebody posted a really really bad thing that was just tripe, well the clickers say 50 of you say hang on thats tripe, this user is off his head...you give a negative rep score and vice versa.

To summise:

Grey - middling or unrep'd

Green - Good rep

Red - Bad Rep

Now admins and mods have power to revoke rep's if really needed...think of it as the new post counter indicator. Lots of posts are good, but quality ones are even better ;) There are promotions behind reputation as well as age of registration and postcount.

It is also futile to get into a petty rep deduction ring or promotion as you have to well, there are rules as to how and who as to how often you can award reputation points...All in all it's going to be a good thing...

Hmm, reputation, eh, Han? Still trying to get into Padm
