Massage function for the driver’s seat

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I want to order a Superb with massage function, that you know is a new option in the MY18. I can see it on the online configurator in the Spanish Skoda Website (code 8I0 ). Even, you can see how it works  in the new user manual but the dealers (I have checked with three dealers) can't add this option and they tell me that this option in not avaliable yet. At least in Spain. Have anyone ordered massage function in UK or any other country? Thanks.

Late reply but probably better then nothing :)

Ordered mine with massage seats, it's really not a "massage" you get from this seat. It uses the four way lumbar support to achieve something that could be compared to "stretching" your lower back spine.

For me it's suffiecent. I've got a work that requires some lifting and with weak muscles in my lower back it sometimes gets soar. When it does get soar - sitting in the driver's seat makes the pain worse. With the "massage" function on it takes the pain away (temporarily anyway). It doesn't suit all and "massage" is a bit of a marketing upwriting.

Thank you.  it isn't too expensive  and I think it's worth it. I will order it.

Any more comments for those with massage seats as to whether they are worth it ?

Thanks

I have it in my Superb and think it's ok. It' perhaps a bit much to call it "Massage seat", so IMHO it depends on what you have to pay for them.

Also I only have it in the driver side, not passenger side. That would have been nice as well.

Meh is the optional word IMHO. I added it as an option because I didn't think the cost was too great, certainly in the context of the overall purchase (can't recall exactly how much). I use it occasionally when I've been driving for a long time and/or I get some back twinges. The effect is negligible, but I suppose better than nothing at all. I wouldn't option it again, but would choose to save the £50 or however much it cost.

I tried the 'massage' function for the first time on a Tiguan last November. Always wondered what it would be like... something discreet perhaps, like one of those power showers only it blew air on your back? Or perhaps the seat had dimples that vibrated? I didn't know what to expect. I already had electric seats on my Octavia but was soooo disappointed when all 'massage' did was continually alter the height of the lumber. Don't go thinking it massages your back, all it does is place the lumbar support in the wrong position for your back.  Honestly, even if they offered it for just £5, you'd be better off buying a tube of Deep Heat.

Having checked the coding in my electric seat, I have a bit that is there for massage activation. Wonder if it’s just a case of the correct buttons and coding. Anyone got a scan from a car with this option fitted? Would go for it as the button is super cheap on AliExpress and I don’t need 3 seat memory positions. Can’t see the seat being different if it’s only moving the lumbar and it was such an inexpensive option.

Thanks

Any chance you could allocate the function to position 3 in the mean time to try it out?

Tried that and nothing doing for now but I need to have a proper look at it. Might just risk it and get the button and run the coding I can see.

Looks like it’s down to the controller as I suspected, wonder if anyone with massage seats could post a scan so I can see the part number. If it’s cheap I’ll do it lol.

Would be great in my Superb too. I tried a rented Passat from 2019 with this option and it was great.  So if someone comes up with a solution, I will give a try.

Any update on this topic?

;)

I wanted to add massage function to my Octavia and I found out, that if you have seat unit starting with "3Q0" and correct buttons (I think), you can have massage function.

Also now for Octavia IV the seat unit starting with "5WA" and it also support massage function as far as I know. It is all just theory based on a few cars with massage buttons.

I have the 3Q0 controller and the coding is there for massage but it doesn’t work when the number 3 button is pressed. If anyone with the massage seat can scan the controller, it would be an amazing help. Thanks.

How does this work then if it was a factory fitted option?

I have the drivers memory seat with the three buttons so I’m happy to try coding it in with VCDS if that’s all it is?

my controller part number is 5Q0 959 760 C if that’s any good?

It uses the lumbar support to move around your back, in the coding I can see the massage option on my controller 5Q0959760A but it doesn’t do anything when I press the number 3 button. From information I have found the correct module needs to be fitted and the number 3 button will actuate the massage even without the correct button, but that’s the PQ platform as I haven’t been able to find any info for MQB. If someone with the massage seats could check the controller part number that may help us all out.

I thought mine was a 3Q0 but I can’t read haha

I’ll try and have a go at coding it today then and report back as my controller is a slightly different version to yours

Tried it but button 3 just moves the seat to its memory position as before.

don’t know if you need to do some sort of reset to activate it or if it’s just not going to work.

I think, that it is related to the buttons. I would say, that the button works in similarly way like buttons in MFSW. The buttons are sending specific request for third position, instead of on/off massage.

I bought the correct buttons (I think) for seat memory with massage button and I will give it a try maybe next week. It is not too easy to switch the buttons. The seat must be taken out in order to change the buttons :D

Btw, price was around 12€, quite cheap and part number is 3V0 959 769.

I'll let you know when I try it.

I’d be surprised if it’s actually the buttons as that would require additional wiring in the loom (3 wires for the normal 3 positions plus an additional one for the massage option when it will only ever use set, 1, 2 & either 3 OR massage. Seems a bit of a reach but who knows?

the best chance of getting this working would be a scan of the module and coding/adaptions from a factory fitted superb 3 but it appears to be a rare option so far.

The buttons don't tend to have a wire for each function, instead it's probably a resistor ladder so the resistance changes depending which button is pressed.

That's probably why you have to press set then seat position rather than both together ;)

If so, then it's entirely possible that by changing a single resistor you can convert between 'massage' and '3' buttons. It's also possible that it's part of the electric seat module parameter data...

I was able to try the buttons, but it looks like, that the buttons works exactly the same way. The third button is not "3" but with the massage symbol and it still work like third button "3".

In conclusion the buttons not depend on the function of the (lumbar) massage. It is needed to change the unit from 5Q0 to 3Q0, after this, it should be only coding. I think, that every Superb 3 FL (maybe pre-FL also, not sure) has the 3Q0 unit.

I will try to look around for the unit, but the price is relatively high. I will keep you updated in case, that I get the correct unit.

My 2018 67 plate superb 3 (not facelift I believe) has the 5Q0 controller with the coding option enabled but did not do anything while @SashaGrace tried it with the 3Q0 controller with the same results so there must be more to it than that.

I’m still inclined to believe the buttons will be the same just with a different logo on button 3 so there must be a controller difference somewhere.
