  • VAG will apparently cover the cost of EGR failures for 2 years after the fix according to watchdog.    Interesting to those who got stung for £800+ previously for a new cooler unit

  • I meant the VW 'remap' with the cheat in it, not the much later one without!   Caught out how, by whom? Do you mean "would/might contravene" the C&U regs?

  • ssstwitter.com_1741701855006.mp4 From a prvious post of his this morning 11/3/2025. HUGE CAR FINANCE MISSELLING NEWS! (Pls share) The regulator @TheFCA has just put out a statement saying it will

Had the car back about a month or so from the Swansea dealership: software "fix" updated, EGR replaced (now on second one after "fix" done in February").  Fuel consumption seems to be worse than ever.  Before the "fix" I was regularly getting in the mid 50s on a long run, now I'm lucky if I get 47.  What a mess.

Do you know if you got the revised EGR? If I was you, I would keep a record of all your refuelling with dates, mileages and reported mpg. There should come a time when VW group have to refund for extra fuel consumption compared to the advertised figures at time of sale. For Skoda's, I do not think DfT believe that fuel consumption was unaffected by the fix.

They will only get anything to do with Fuel Consumption if vehicles with The Fix can not match the EU Tests that were carried out when Defeat Devices were fitted,

and then after the new engine management is being used under those same tests.

They achieved that to have the German Authorities approve the voluntary removal of the defeat device.

There were no advertised fuel consumption tests for real world with Euro 5 TDI's just EU Results for comparison.

http://skoda.co.uk/pages/fuel-consumption-statement.aspx

Going to have to be some legal case on vehicles running crap after compared to before, and premature failure of parts that were already in many cases failing prematurely and costing owners money.

VCA and DfT statements about the fix have been ambiguous. Re the fix, they consistently use the phrase "approved them on condition that CO2 emissions... were within tolerance...". A couple of days ago a VW owner received a letter from VW customer relations manager which included the sentence " The implementation of the technical measures for Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT and some SKODA vehicles were tested and approved by the relevant type approval authority... " Some SKODAs"? Apparently Duncan Kay, DfT Head of Environment Team has also confirmed the fix "causes about twice" the level of diesel particulate matter, I.e. unburnt hydrocarbons. I suspect we shall learn more in due course. Irrespective of official or advertised figures, if it were to be shown that the cars only complied with Euro 5 legislation with the fix and the fix inherently increased fuel consumption, then owners have a good case for mis-selling. Purchasers did not only base their buying decisions on official figures, but also on magazine reviews, test drives etc of non-compliant cars.

It wasn't the revised EGR.

Did you get to see the first original EGR that was replaced? There was a shortage of replacements and I have a suspicion that some dealers only took them out and tried to clean them before replacing them.  There is supposedly a new version of the EGR now available, so you should ask if you are getting one of those and ask to see the old one. There may also be a new update of the update, so you should ask about that too.

Have you still got your copy of the letter about the refund for the EGR? There is a big query about what KBA actually tested. VW, or here Skoda, have implied that KBA tested for durability of the fix. Your letter virtually states this, but there is no evidence that KBA ever did and the press officer has virtually said they did not. I think this needs to be raised with the Transport Select Committee who may be able to query DfT about this. Customers are being misled if VW have lied about this.

What a despicable load of guff!

The usual weasel words from the usual weasel suspects, all to the soundtrack of a favourite Christmas carol loved by all true Deutschlanders.

What do you make of this! German cities to ban diesel cars less than Euro Cat 4 from certain roads with immediate effect.  https://uk.reuters.com/article/us-germany-emissions/german-cities-free-to-ban-older-diesel-cars-immediately-idUKKCN1IJ1W7

Inner (large) city with high traffic volume I guess.

If you are officially advised about a public health risk, to do nothing leaves the council open to damages I would think.

Not really much choice.

The findings of the elusive Jones Day report may finally be made public.  Germany's top federal constitutional court rules investigators can look at whatever was found in a raid on Jones Day's German office. US law firm Jones Day conducted 700 interviews since the outbreak of the diesel crisis. They ensured 9200 volumes with more than 550 terabytes. 500 lawyers, technicians and other specialists were involved in the investigation (Handelsblatt).

I just found out this week that Paul Willis that headed VW in the UK had moved on to pastures new.

He was the mouth piece for VW that some UK MP's accused of being a liar.

I was looking to see who is now thew front man / woman for VW UK and Audi, Skoda & SEAT.

I see that Alison Jones has been the Managing Director of VW UK since June 2018.

?

Is she the heid yin then, the one who the buck stops with or have they any other Fall Guy / Woman in place?

This idea that the next marque w/upgrade etc  getting better  fuel economy has been around since before I was a teenager . Dad bought one of the MK1 Vauxhall Victors as sister/me + dog were getting a bit big for the old A30. A few years later MK2  came out, and a sales bloke tried to interest dad in one. Sales bloke spouted off about all the improvements. He thought he was doing well till economy came up and sales wally quoted economy figures at ( from memory) of circa 35MPG( which was good for a 1600 cc petrol at the time). Dad's reply "great, but mine returns over 40 ". Exit sales bloke stage right.
