Octavia road noise - is really that bad ??

Featured Replies

No.

My 1.4l Combi seems quiet to SWMBO and I. Only on exceptionally rough concrete motorways does it get loud.

  • I dont have any booming in my hatch, but the road noise is more than I like. I have tested 3 set of tires, Bridgestone, Tyfoon and Goodyear (all 18"), and there was no difference to my ears. But

Perhaps the lower profile tyres on the VRS make the problem worse?

Yes. They are slightly wider too.

My 2014 1.2 TSI Octavia gets quite noisy at high speeds. There's a bit of road noise, some vibration and some of wind noise from the drivers window. My old 2003 Golf was quieter.

Same here - I jumped out of my 2018 VRS into my wife's 2003 MK4 GT TDI Golf the other day and was very surprised.

Bigger performance wheels are noisy, especially under 25C outside temperature - which I suppose you have most of the time in the island. I switch to winter set when driving becomes unbearable, and that's way before it starts snowing in Serbia.

Winter set is quiet.

It's not that surprising. I think Skoda makes great cars, but with the lower price tag than VW and other similar brands they have to skimp on some stuff. Sound proofing is one of them.

For sure Octavia is bad choice if you are driving a lot on motorway.

Sound proofing will dampen road noise to a certain extent, but the tyres and the road surface still play a big part

First thing I noticed when I went to sit into the brother-in-laws Passat was it has an extra ring of rubber on the doors. Things like that all help with the noise.
