What (optional) spare wheel do you get on the O3FL VRS?

Featured Replies

Another post on here about spare wheels has got me thinking. On the O2 VRS the spare wheel was a 16" steel, what does the O3 VRS have?

Spare Wheel? What is one of those?

I just got a bottom of fluid similar to tyre weld but more hassle to use.

My MKIII 230 has a space saver spare, like a motor bike tyre, think it's 18".  You need to check the front brake disc size, if it's 344mm ( the 230 has ) the smallest wheel on the front is 17" a 16" rim won't fit.

If i'm not mistaken the new Tdi Vrs's have the smaller front brake disc but you will need to check

If my new 245 has a skinny spacesaver I may have to consider a full size 19" spare.  Looking at £350-£400 for wheel + tyre I guess depending on tyre brand.

I wonder if they come pre-kerbed and a bit cheaper on e-bay?.

Hopefully it will fit in the well and the tool holder can be made rattle free........

Sorry should have said if you order the optional spare what do you get.

On the O2 FL VRS on 18s you got a 16" steel spare but with a 205 width higher profile standard tyre which allowed use for more than just "get you home/to the tyre shop" but its dawned on me that won't work on the O3 VRS.

£199 for a refurb. No thanks they are "only" £220 each new.

& maybe only another 140 for a 19" tyre ?

That's fine for temporarily sealing a small hole in the tread, but will be useless for more major damage to a tyre... and will make many tyre retailers refuse to try to repair the tyre.

A spare wheel is always a better bet IMHO.

Yes indeed. But if I buy the same tyre as the car comes with at least I can ameliorate at least the first kerbing.

Anyone using a full size 19" spare on their VRS? What's the impact on the boot floor (non-variable) and what do you need to do re the tool insert (ooh err etc)

Edit : sorry, didn't read that fully. Mines a space saver.

You have to go for an 18" - got myself one off eBay.

I also bought the spare wheel kit of Skoda for £45 which included a big plastic screw to fix it into place on the boot floor.

You just remove the polystyrene boot filler thing and put the wheel in there. Obviously you lose the two storage compartments, but the wheel fits perfectly and the boot floor remains flat.

A 19" wheel and tyre will fit in the wheel well okay, but will raise the boot floor slightly. (10-15mm?) This can be rectified by making a wooden frame to raise the entire floor, or maybe using polystyrene.

This what you get

Message me if you want a full size spare as I won't be running my 19's
