No MDI by default just 3.5 jack??

Featured Replies

I can't find any mdi type interface? I can only find an aux 3.5 jack.. with what looks like a white blanking plate just below it.

I've been given this by work to use for 6-12 months and bloody love it! Just done a week in devon with kids and it was a dream :)

Superb mkII estate Elegance TDI. 61 plate.

I've had quite a time trying to get a larger than 32gb SD card to work and would like to use hdd. -I waded through several posts on the subject of fat, ntfs(has this ever worked on sd?) and got a bit lost tbh! Couldn't see a definitive guide on this.

Can I get a hdd on this easily?

Many thanks in advance.

Gadge.

The mdi interface would have been where you see that white plate - if the car had been ordered with one. Its a weird omission on the  Elegance spec level -- my 2014 car/Columbus doesn't have it either, just the jack like you.

I said bugger it and used an SD card. At the time, a quick check on the web indicated that the max reliable size for the SD card  with my Columbus was 32GB with an SDHC card formatted as FAT32. You will see posts claiming larger sizes work but note that Columbus is a brand name that covers a lot of units and different capabilities. The firmware can come into play too - very early Columbus units only took 2GB cards.....

Hopefully one of the experts will chime in and confirm what is definitive on this. I've had the card left in the slot for 2 years now and havent bothered trying anything else. My ripped music collection is only 23GB....

If we are talking about the same white blanking plate, on my car it is an LED light to illuminate inside the armrest at night.

I too use a 32Gb SD card in the head unit, this holds pretty much my whole music collection.

More recently I'v used the aux-in and streamed music via Spotify on my mobile phone, this works pretty well too.

I thought it looked like an LED cover! My LED must have gone or its connection.. can't get it on by any means.

That aside I've already got a 32gb full of allsorts of mine, Mrs, and kids music.. we do very long trips so would love to have had a HDD.

I'm sure while googling this up there was a retrofit. How complicated I've yet to find. Possibly way more grief than worth.

I'm very surprised when i type my VN in skoda's website that there is NO firmware whatsoever or updates at all.

Many thanks!

Yes, its a lamp. I broke mine when retrofitting the MDI!

The MMI/MDI plug is located here..... if you have one...

How did you retrofit? Do you have part numbers etc?

Thanks

It was a tricky job because I made my own wiring loom to do it. They may well be available to plug and play, but I can't give part numbers because thats not what I did. Apart from making the wiring, which I have the parts and tools to do, it was a pain to put the slot into the cubby box for the MDI connector. I'll see if I can find part numbers for what I did buy though.
