Radio Uprgrade to Swing

Featured Replies

Hi All,

After a bump last month I was given a 1 litre courtesy car. This turned out to be a 2016 CitiGo Black Edition in Candy White. Loved it soo much I purchased a 2014 Elegance GreenTech.

The only downside is that is doesn't have the same radio. The hire car had a colour screen, no CD player and a phone cradle. Mine has one with a non colour screen and a Garmin device.

Has anyone seen the new radio for sale? Or any guides on installation? I'm prsuming the Garmin (mine isn't working) uses a microphone for bluetooth phone calls? Does anyone know if the new colour radio uses a phone mic in a different location?

Ta.

This is not my area of expertise (or interest really) but the impression I get from other posts is that the entertainment system is very much a part of the original build for current generation VW group vehicles.

The imbedded security also makes it difficult to upgrade or even change units. Very rare to hear of car radio thefts these days as they cannot effectively be onsold.

Not saying it cannot be done but the effort and costs seem to be disproportionately high.

My wife has just replaced her 14 reg Mii Sport (same as Citigo) with a new one. The main difference in the latest one is the radio and the loss of the PID (the Garmin device). The latest radio has a colour screen but is carp! It is the most non intuitive device I've ever come across and in my opinion is dangerous as it cannot be operated as simply as the previous model. You have to look at the screen to even change stations. She also wanted DAB but this was a showroom model so she had to have it as it was.

In my opinion it does perform as well as the previous one either!

She used the PID all the time and the option of using a smartphone doesn't suit her and the phone holder doesn't fit her phone anyway!

She is having the radio replaced with a Sony with DAB on Monday so hopefully that will be OK.
