Mega road trip started - one of my bucket list

Featured Replies

At last I am going to the Nordkapp, in Norway :)

...from where I live in Finland it is going to be a 3000km total trip, but loving it so far.

Just ended day one and cannot say this is bad for the petrol VRS:

...that was on a single thank of gas, BTW, so I still had over 100km to drive.

Hope to get some awesome views on the fjords :)

Enjoy the trip. Bet there will be some magnificent views.

Did London to Stockholm in the vrs last year 2500 miles return, and the vrs made the longer driving days so easy.

This year is looking to be to Barcelona, via the Millau Viaduct.

Just checked your destination - wow!

Try and upload some photos en route.

I cant believe you made 7l /100 km with 220 petrol engine,  have you check this brim to brim?  This should be a diesel vrs mileage.

Allow time to go to the visitor centre underneath the Millau Viaduct not just the aire on the Autoroute.

Seeing the shadow from the Viaduct nowhere near the leg (because of the height the Viaduct) is awesome!

Trust me - and it is not the first time I have seen such low numbers, but this is the lowest range ever.

...want to see the screen from "since last refill"? :)

Are you going through Jyväskylä or Virrat?

Jyväskylä, but already in Torni - staying here a couple of days and then making my way up, and on the way down via Trömsö, that I expect to be magnificent.

Going to setup a dashcam to make some 4k footage of the nice roads and also make photos where I can.

The VRS behaved great and it could have been more economical if I did not do quite a lot of overtaking - at some time it was around 6.7l/100k

To my experience those passing lanes after Orivesi tend to increase fuel consumption a bit. ;)

Thanks for this. Staying 2 nights in millau so have plenty of time to look around.

If you're staying in Millau, the signs will take you off the autoroute before you drive over the viaduct. If you specifically want to drive over the viaduct, you'll need to overshoot Millau and then go back (yes, I got caught out that way).

...of course I meant "highest range" - not lowest ;)

And I did a long trip once on a loaner Octavia 1.2TSI and that was under 6l/100km on one tank and 880km.

I think the petrol VRS just is economical when driven under "ideal" conditions.

I will keep you posted ;)

...just checked gas prices in Norway and I am not awfully impressed, to say the least.

...and I can confirm the consumption. The car was filled right at the beginning of the trip and it traveled 641km, stating an average of 7l/100km on the computer.

I just filled it again and it took 46l, this means that (46x100)/641=7, so... the trip computer was right on the money.

I can post the screenshot from the "Since filled", since I made a photo of that one right before I filled the car.

On the minus side of things, I picked up a screw on a tire somewhere along the way and had no option than to use a local repair shop to fix it - as a result, I am €40 poorer and got a little souvenir on my Xtreme wheel from the repair shop guy. I couldn't be bothered to even complain cause I am sure I would get nowhere with this.

These wheels look great, but the paint and finish on them is soooooo weak. Since at some point I will demote them to winter wheels and I badly scratched another wheel on a previous trip, I don't care so much anymore, but anyone considering them should take notice about the soft paint.

Having seen the new silver finish on these, I might refurbish them at some point and just make them whole silver - at least they will be easier to repair in the future, specially if they are winter wheels, which are more prone to scratches.
