warning light

Featured Replies

Help needed, the exhaust inspection system light has come on and the engine has gone into limp mode. I am supposed to be going on holiday tomorrow and as I live in France the garages don't open until Tuesday. The question is, is there anything on the motor I can check myself, like a sensor or wiring or must I postpone my holiday. Thanks in advance for any advice cheers, Pete.

It could be many things, you really need to get it scanned for faults...

Don't you have there AA or something?

I can get it to the garage ok in limp mode so thats not a problem. Here roadside help is covered by your insurance.Looks like I am going to put the holiday off for a few days ,Cheers all .Pete

My point - as you have insurance and road assistance - why don't you use it? Maybe it's something simple - or at least you'll know what to expect and how long it can take.

Drive it to the garage and leave it for them to look at when they open tomorrow.

Hire a car for the holiday and enjoy.

As mentioned the EML  (Engine Management Light) can signal many different faults.

My guess would be turbo, EGR or gas pressure sensor related!

Is it the DPF warning lamp or the engine warning lamp? (Your owner's manual has a list of the warning lamps if you're not sure)

If it's the DPF warning you may be able to fix it by just forcing a DPF regen. You'll need diagnostics to do this but I'd imagine a breakdown service should have these. You would still need to find out why it has failed to regen so many times but this could probably wait until after your holiday.

I think I will take Silver 1011s advice and wait until tomorrow,I am at home and not on the road,so it will give me time to do a couple of things on the van. It is the engine light and not the DPF and the engine starts and runs smoothly but only up 2,500 rpm so I am hopeful its nothing too serious(cross fingers) will update when I know the problem.

Quick question - have you done service recently - like in the last few days - and fuel filter was replaced?

I had mine done on Wednesday and noticed a bit of revs fluctuation when idling - today got engine light - but not loss in power.

Checked for faults - using some cheap OBDII scanner and got P0191 - fuel rail pressure sensor - called my brother and he asked if mechanic put enough extra fuel with new filter - no idea as I wasn't too close to the car. He suggested that maybe there was some extra air in the system and it taken few days for ECU to show error.

I was able to reset the error and it looks like everything is OK now.

Thats interesting cos I had it serviced on friday I will be taking it back to the same garage tomorrow and will certainly mention that. Thanks a lot I hope you are right will keep you posted.

You are welcome :) done few miles this evening and no engine light and revs are rock steady when idling :)

One more suggestion from my brother - before starting engine after replacing fuel filter - turn the key few times but do not start engine - just let fuel pump to build the pressure and get rid of air.

OK started engine to go to garage this morning and the effing light was out! I took it the garage anyway and he put the OBD on it and it showed a fault in one of the pollution sensors, however his obd is an older version and didn't say which one so I took it to the main dealers an hour later they changed the sensor and relieved me of 200 Euros ah well at least I can go on my holiday now. Thanks for all the advice,I am just glad it wasn't something complicated.         cheers all Pete

Pollution sensor ?!?!? Do you have error code / log and part number from the invoice?
