Map Update on Columbus

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm the new owner of a 63 plate Superb Elegance. I was concerned the maps were out of date. I've done some research on here and elsewhere and have found that the system is currently as attached photos. So I think that's v12 maps and v14 is current?

1. Is the firmware up to date?

2. Can I use the SD card trick to update the maps?

3. If I must use a DVD, I've seen them for £25 here: http://www.satnavdvd.co.uk/2017-skodavw-rns510810-navigation-sat-nav-map-update-disc-v14-327-p.asp

Does anyone have experience of the site?

Many thanks in advance,

FC

Firmware is fine. Nothing newer or better available.

Maps as you say are out of date a little. However, the site you linked to is simply someone sat at home with an internet connection, a dvd burner, a printer, and a stack of DL dvds. All he's done is downloaded the maps from the web and laid them onto a disc and charged you for the privilege of buying them. You can do that yourself a lot cheaper. In fact, if you search about on Ebay you'll find someone else who's done exactly the same trick but is charging a whole lot less than that for pretty much the same product.

Why would you want to use the SD card method instead of a DVD?

Ad. 1 - yes, it is the latest SW version for your unit

Ad. 2 - yes but this may kill your unit as well

Thank you both.

I don't have a DVD burner!

I'll look harder on eBay as you suggest and see whether it's worth me finding someone with one or just pay "a whole lot less" than £25 I have someone post me a disc.

I'm not particularly technologically savvy and may lack the confidence to do it all myself.

Thanks again.

Perhaps someone close to you has already burned a disc?

perhaps if you gave at least a county someone may offer??

Hi - did you manage to update your maps, and if so how?!

I have a 2012 Superb with Columbus, but the POI's seem to date back to 2012 when the car was new,

I went on the Skoda website only to be told that that it has to be done at service for my VIN... Is that true?

Finally, a friend has a new Octavia that came with the latest nav SD - could the data be downloaded from one of these, or would that not work or be wrong or naughty, or do these SD's have to be in the unit for them to work?

Any help would be welcome, please!

Hello.

I did as suggested and bought a copy of the maps DVD off eBay. It came with basic instructions and after a couple of attempts, worked as hoped.

I say a couple of attempts as the instructions said you could check progress by tapping the eject button. However, this merely ejected the disc and interrupted the update.

I had had more patience the second time.

Thanks - I'll do that then - just wanted to be sure it worked.

I have a genuine Skoda map DVD version 14 which I believe is still the latest version. You can have that for £25 delivered if that's any use?

Do you have the firmware update with that, too? looks like it might not be a bad idea.

I don't no, just the disc for the maps. Rustynuts is the oracle on firmware, if you ask him about firmware I'm sure he'll advise on whether you need an update and if so how to go about it.
