Ad Blue reminder in 150bhp Sportline?

Featured Replies

We took delivery yesterday of our Superb Sportline 2ltr Diesel 150bhp 2Wd, its the MY18 if that's any use.

We opted for the 150bhp as I didn't have need for 190 but I was led to believe in ordering that the it was only the 4wd or the 190 engine that had the need for adding Ad Blue.

Ive fuelled up today and noticed I have the Ad Blue cap next to the fuel cap and also the dash etc tells me how long before I need to refil the adblue and the capacity in the tank?

Is this a new thing or have I somehow ended up with a 190 engine?

Thanks

That really doesn't sound right. Have you double-checked your paperwork? I have a 150 and can confirm that it doesn't need adblue - it does sound like you have something else....

We are military based abroad and ordered the car from a Company who specialises in uk orders. They got the car through a dealership in aldershot where we collected from and brought the car overseas yesterday.

Our initial paperwork says 150, even the form from the broker does! I've asked a friend who collected the same model

last month and they don't have the same fuel cap! Is a mix up that simple? Is there any sign on the engine itself that would give it away?

Hello mine is 1.6tdi 120hp greenline witch needs ad blu. Put you plate number in here and see what it gives you.

If you PM me the VIN number I will have a look see what specification comes up on the parts catalogue :) have to agree it sounds like a 190 :)

Bonus if you paid for a 150 lol...

You should have a data sticker under the boot carpet with the engine code and KW output

My 150 sport line DSG needs ad blu too.

The counter states 6500 miles until a refill. Car now has 50 miles on clock.

First car car with this so

Does this sound right?

How much to refill?

Does not allowing the car to regenerate (short journeys) reduce the countdown quicker?

Thanks in advance.

I got a MY2018 150 TDI DSG in September 2017, it has AdBlue. Apparently 150 TDIs with DSG and 4 wheel drive now have AdBlue and 150 TDIs with 2 wheel drive and manual gearboxes don't have it.

"Does this sound right?" - roughly - mine started with 7500 miles but went to 6500 fairly quickly

"Does not allowing the car to regenerate (short journeys) reduce the countdown quicker? "

Beware not letting regens happen

If the vehicle is not driven in a way that automatically regenerates the particulate filter, it will build up an excessive amount of soot, which, if not resolved, will reduce the performance of the vehicle and damage the filter. If the filter does build up too much soot, a vehicle warning light will appear to alert the driver. The problem can usually be resolved by allowing the filter to automatically regenerate until the warning light goes out – i.e. by driving the vehicle at 50mph or above for at least 20 minutes. The vehicle handbook will have specific guidance for the vehicle. If traffic conditions and speed limits do not allow the vehicle to be driven so that the filter regenerates, it will have to be returned to a dealer for a forced regeneration to clear the filter. If the warning light is ignored and the vehicle is driven without regenerating the filter, it will cause damage to the vehicle, which will not be covered by warranty  can cost in the region of £1,000 to £1,500 after a driver has failed to follow the correct regeneration process.

Ahh must be the DSG then.

Thanks for for heads up with re gen. fully aware on that, it’s the first week of having the car so this weekend it’s getting a good run.

So do peeps buy their own ad blu and fill themselves?

Ill have to to do more reading on it. It’ll take about 8 months to get to that mileage though unless it counts down quicker!

Cheers.

just find a petrol station that sells it on the pump.. its same type of nozzle as a fuel pump -  save messing around buying it and storing it,,

https://www.findadblue.com/

Short few mile trips, cold start, cold oil running and they get an ad-blue thirst.

Set off on long trips and the ad-blue usage can be pretty low,

almost as though the VW Group still have some sort of Defeat Device operation even with SCR systems in the latest Euro 6's.....  Time will tell!

Thanks guys, I’ll keep in mind and fill up at a station when the time comes.

Just seen I can get ad blue at halfrauds with trade card.

10 litre @ £11.25 which still looks more than the garages so I’ll keep looking.

Check your insurance as you may not be insured if you haven't declared correctly.

I went to buy some adblue from a lorry refuelling pump at a petrol station but was told the delivery rate was too fast for a car to take as it was specifically for lorries with large volume adblue tanks The forecourt staff informed me that when the normal vehicle fuel pumps are replaced the new ones will have have an adblue filler for cars. I had to buy a 10ltr container.

Some people saying use a forecourt pump and other sources saying the flow is too great for a car. Anybody able to give their personal experience of using the forecourt pump for delivery of car Adblue?

Welcome.

Use them carefully, or do not use them.

If you do not want to fill into the vehicle at the pump take a Clear 10 or 20 litre empty Ad-blue container with you and fill that carefully.

Then fill the vehicle at your leisure and do that carefully.

Or just buy in containers.

When mine first needed Ad Blue, I bought a hose that screws onto both the Ad Blue filler neck on the car and a 10 litre container and I also bought a 10 litre container of Ad Blue.  I made sure everything was clean and chose a dry day to fill it.  It took three or four minutes standing with the container high enough to feed by gravity, but it was easy and there was no mess or spillage as the hose seals off the filling process.

I bought the hose from eBay
