Hello.....A new Skoda owner AND just retired from teaching after 39 long years in the same school! Always driven Land Rover Discoveries, so I can load up with musical gear (in a Beatle show - www.magicalhistorytour.co.uk) all my historical stuff (I give historical talks all over the midlands - www.keenhistorytalks.com -  and all my sailing gear! However, now 'on the pension' (!) had to downsize...saw the Skoda Fabia 1.4TDi Estate Greenline 59 plate - thought the usual: boxy, lack of style, little 14" wheels etc. Then noticed the mpg, then the £20 annual road tax (as opposed to the £26 per MONTH with the Disco!) Then took it out - I was blown away by the handling and more specifically the turn of speed  - from a 3 cylinder diesel that returns such incredible mpg. Yes it's noisy - but somehow it's not obtrusive - I actually quite like it! So, to assuage my style problems, going to upgrade with 16" wheels (2nd hand!) asap. Which will be my first query re size, adabtability etc if I can't find the answers elsewhere on here. I actually had a big grin as I drove it today, rather than looking at the fuel gauge!
