Yeti in France

Featured Replies

I live  in west finistere, apart from mine, only 2 yetis locally, no local interest, the French are very home product people - however the summer brought lots of german registered yeti's!

Last month we took our 70,000 mile, four year old 1.2 petrol Yeti via the Channel Tunnel to France, initially to Saint Malo and then to near Vannes, both in Brittany.

We try and take turns driving an hour, or so, each to save getting too tired or uncomfortable and had no aches or pains either during the day or evening afterwards.

Fuel consumption ( on MaxiDot ) read 35mpg whilst cruising at 130kph on dry Autoroutes but improved to 38mpg over the nearly 1500 miles in two weeks - full tank to full tank method on return. Wind noise at 130kph was noticeably more than at 70mph which is usual UK cruising speed, indicating why the fuel consumption was affected.

This was the first really long trip and Yeti came up trumps, comfortable, reasonably economical, plenty of room for luggage ( admittedly for just two ) and 100% reliable.

Not many other Skodas on French roads and I only saw one Skoda dealer in two weeks but no-one seemed interested in looking at mine......

As I've posted previously, I'm a satisfied Yeti owner.

As you used the Tunnel, was there any problem with the height of the car as it's very close to the maximum car height for standard vehicles. We are off using Eurotunnel in a couple of weeks.

Don't think you'll have any problem. I've seen plenty of VW Transporters boarding when we've used it.

Used the tunnel several times with the Yeti, and no problems at all.

Thanks. If I recall the Yeti height was very close indeed to the height bar for standard cars. Even in my Mercedes coupe I duck as I drive under the height bar! Goodness knows how I will feel in our Yeti!

No problems at all.

(However, we both routinely shrink in our seats when it comes to the height bar!)

Thanks for this; very encouraging! No matter how low the cars we have used, we always shrink down!

We did just under 2,500 miles in France last month, 1,800 miles of this was towing, with 30/36mpg over the different terrains. We were hit by 45 minute uphill traffic jamb of stop start traffic approaching Millau at 1,100 meters altitude. This was then followed by 1,300 meters altitude of hairpin bends in 2nd and 3rd gear for 1 1/2hrs, hence 30mpg.

Overall average was about 38/39mpg for the holiday with mid to high 50's for solo driving.

We use the tunnel at least 5 return journeys each year with no problems from m the Yeti, ( only the regular delays caused by the number of users at the French end). Miles per gallon is usually better than in England even though many of the miles are at autoroute speeds, probably caused by no roadworks, great road surface, far less traffic.

I live in South West France and so far this year have driven to Basel in Switzerland and more recently drove to the Northern Peak district via Manchester and back towing a trailer tent. Av mpg 46. Problem  now is that the dreaded DPF light  has come on again so its back to the Skoda dealer for a particulate filter regeneration. He keeps telling me with a Gallic shrug that I do too any short journeys!!!!

In the 4 and a half years that we have taken Yetis to France (Vienne) we've gone from seeing none on each visit to seeing maybe half a dozen each time plus a couple of Brit/Dutch/German ones within 15 kilometres of our place. Definitely a lot more common/popular now.

The French tend to be loyal to French makes, such as Peugeot, Renauld & Citroen. Thats why you dont see to many non French cars on the roads here.

We spend six months of the year at our house in the Vaucluse and have only seen non French registered Yetis.

Regards

What a lovely part of France, Llwyngwernog. You lucky, lucky people.

We stopped for a couple of days at Le Barroux in early September.

Out for a late breakfast in Bedoin, up Mont Ventoux and a leisurely lunch in Beaumes-de Venise.

Tempted with an earlier trip next year to help with our hosts' apricot harvest.

We have been going to this part of France for about ten years , firstly in a VW California and later in various gites.

We now have a house near Villedieu on the edge of the village with nearly two acres....it is our heaven on earth.

Being there early in the year is great ...usually pretty good weather and very few tourists !
