Leaving work last night I left the lit works car park  for the unlit country lane and realised that the beam was pointing at the road about 10 feet in front of the car . . . . . . . 

 

Turning lights off and back on didn't help nor did switching to main beam and back.

 

Found somewhere to stop and turned ignition off and back on - lights back to normal.

 

Anyone experienced this?

 

Any point going into the dealer?  I guess that there will not be a fault logged.

Happened to me maybe twice. Most probably a sw glitch with the headlight adjustment unit not initializing properly. Only happened at night startup though (i.e. it was dark outside so the low beams came up with the ignition), not once when the car was already running and drls were to be auto-switched to beams.

Happened to me once, about 2 months ago - never happened again since.

Was night time, switched on car, headlights did the startup dance, but the left one did not "rise" and stayed pointing down.

Pulled over, turned off car, waited 20 secs, restarted and it was back to normal, behaving as expected.

 

Weird indeed.

Had it a few times in two years and it seems just to be a typical modern car electronics glitch.  What I have found is that only starting the car after all the warning lights have cycled helps - I get it less frequently since.

Yes, I had this a week ago, driving my brother-in law home. After stopping and chatting for a few minutes, then restarting the car, it corrected itself. 

Am keeping an eye open for a recurrence. 

Mine did this last weekend. I started my car up after dark and heard a loud click, as I left the well lit urban area I realised my lights weren't working properly so I pulled over and turned my car off and back on again, which rectified the problem.

 

I also had a problem during the week where my lights came on automatically and wouldn't go off again despite being in bright sunshine.
