retrofit black pack grill surrond

Featured Replies

Has anyone actually done it without removing the bumper. Ive tried and i cant see ANY way to do it safely with out breaking the chrome surround, grill or the bumper. I've watched a few youtubes but they dont show the removal without taking the bumper off.so im sure they are BS

Most people get the grill wrapped

stupidily bought the black grill off superskoda but i really cant see anyway to fit it without pulling off the bumper or find some one with octopus fingers

People on here say you pretty much have to snap the old one out from the bumper

tried that but the bumper looks like its about to break off, the two parts either side of the grill. I wanted it in once piece as well. Its held on buy some snap fitting but they are impossible to reach with a screwdriver even taking the four screws off the top.

How difficult is it to remove the bumper or is that  garage job?

There is a guide somewhere on here which is step by step to remove the bumper

Seem to recall it being a coupla hours work TBH you might as well do the whole honeycombe grill if you're gonna remove the bumper

its bumper off or pretty likely you will break the surround.

I got 90% of the way and then the surround snapped when I did mine. However it's not going back on so wasnt too fussed anyway. If your carefull I can't see it being a problem damaging other parts. Once one side is free it comes out fairly easy.

i was going to try a carbon dip the ogee one but everyone seems to get it wrapped as mentioned. Its coming out broken then! as its too cold and wet here atm to take a bumper off and the garage i use are too busy. I found it really tricky to see never mind reach the clips. did you have to use much force? and what tools did you use to take it off? how did you get to the bottom clips?

I replaced mine without taking the bumper off however the old chrome one did break.

used a screwdriver. I put an old t-shirt under it to prevent damage to the car. If I remember correctly I started at the top and worked around. There are youtube vids of people doing it.

found one cz dude with it fitted but that was all, no tutorial or vid of it being done, he wasn't convincing.

You can do it in about 15 mins, if you don't mind breaking the old chrome surround ?

As mentioned above, use an old cloth for protection and use a screwdriver to pry it off. Once you see how the 1st clip is attached, it gets easier.

The instructions elsewhere on this forum tells you to undo the screws that hold the plastic cover around the bonnet catch/top of the grille to get an easier starting point, but not sure it made much difference.

yeah that why i was frustrated it made no different at all unless you have hands like pancakes

did you work around from the outside or jam the driver from the back?

A friend of mine works for a body shop and got me a genuine Skoda grill for £37.50 which fits and looks real good.

i have the surround as offered on superskoda it was just about how to take it off and the conclusion is its not easy.

If you're talking about just the grill surround (and you don't care about breaking it), yes you can definitely remove it without removing the bumper. I did so using a screwdriver, as already suggested.

If you're talking about removing the actual grill, I would advise dropping the bumper. If you have octopus like hand and ninja skills you may be able to cut through the plastic welded tabs that secure the grill to the bumper, without damange, but I wouldn't risk it. I fitted a honeycomb grill and dropped the bumper, it's time consuming but not difficult with two people.

The new one just pushes on in a matter of seconds, The hard bit is getting the old one off. ( I lost my patience with the old one and it came off in 3 pieces and most of the clips broken)
