A near-mint condition alloy wheel...?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

My 2002 A4 Avant has a full size spare alloy wheel in the compartment under the boot. According to the dealer I bought the car off, the spare has never been used - and a visual inspection certainly suggests that if it ever has been used, it wasn't for long. The tyre on it is a Continental SportContact 2 which may or may not be original but again looks like it's never been used. It's been on the spare wheel a long time so will need replacing as the rubber will have hardened but the alloy itself is still powder-coated and has no marks on the outside, and only minor blemishes on the inside.

Someone suggested to me the other day that a powder coated original mint audi alloy could be worth quite a bit of money to someone restoring a car to show standard, as they'll be very rare now.

My car is in great nick for it's age but it's nowhere near mint and if the spare is worth something as it is, I'd be happy to sell it and buy a replacement. Is it worthwhile? What would I be likely to get for it?

Cheers

I doubt very much that it will bring anything like what you expect.

probably get £40 for it, it's not really a rare car

Take a look on ebay, should give you an idea of it's worth :)

Rules of thumb...

  1. Whenever anyone suggests that something you have "might be worth a bit/a lot of money" it isn't.
  2. The value will be based upon said mate having seen a Daily Mail article which itself was based upon unrealistic "buy it now" prices on Ebay items. Not sales.
  3. The hassle involved in selling the aforementioned item will outweigh any profit 3:1
