Inter cooler has oil in it

I’ve just bought a mk1 fabia vrs and done cam belt as I’ve pulled bottom intercooler pipe off oil poured out, any ideas on this? Is there a crank case breather filter or anything of a similar thing to try?

It’s common. 

 

A catch-can attached to the crank case should stop it.

Or just route the pipe to the ground and block off the intake hole. Thats what i did and done get any oil dripping, just vapour

Just to be completely clear here, the breather system operates downstream from the intercooler, not upstream, so oil from the breather cannot fill the intercooler, it has to be from leaking turbo seals, there is no other oil source upstream of the intercooler.

 

It's entirely common to all turbo diesels so not necessarily anything to worry about, I would remove the TIP and check the impeller for play just in case the turbo is on it's way out.

Yes the breather does go into the intake pre turbo

Jesus, what a retarded design, most diesels go into the plenum which is why that gets so gunked up. I can't believe it, as soon as the oil mist hits the intercooler it condenses and fills the base like a sump. That's so dumb.

For optimal crankcase pressure - a tad below atmospheric -  I think the place it feeds in makes functional good sense on a turbocharged car. Just need to drain the oil from the intercooler from time to time on an older car, or fit a catch can; or kill the odd motorcyclist by routing it onto the road...

I always park the car in the same spot on the drive and have no oil or anything coming out the end of the pipe even after the car has been driven.

When I first installed the can the valve was open and left a mess on the engine undertray. Also, why would I have to empty the can periodically if the vapour was just that?!

Maybe its to do with the fact the vapours are trapped and condensing back to oil, im not saying nothing comes out the pipe at all but it doesnt drip oil out all down the road. Theres far more oil leaking out from my turbo oil feed than this CCV

Fitting a catch deffo does help removing some of the gunk that goes back into the system but I think maybe removing the EGR would help - not an easy task if you have a BLT engine as the engine management light needs mapping out.

ASZ is the same on the later ones. Has to be mapped out as well

Yup, mine had to me mapped out, although took a week or so to actually ping on!?
