Funny thing happens when cold outside

Featured Replies

Last night outside temp got to minus 6 , when I pulled up I didn't turn the engine off, but I noticed that the rev counter was sitting between 900 and 1000 raves at idle, it was as if the choke had activated slightly , is this normal ?? engine had been running for about 5 hours

Is it diesel? Having a regen moment?

On the cold theme ........

a -7 start today. Thank goodness for hot screen and hot seat.

Need hot headlamp covers next.

You should try LED headlights, they don't give off any heat whatsoever to defrost the glass!!!

Isn't that what the heated washer jets are for then...?!

Heated washer jets are really not as good at -6*oC  Air temp and lower ground temp as a spray of De-icers or Pre-Icers.

George, have you used either of these before and if so any windscreen smearing after using it.

Have you tried cling film as an overnight frost shield on headlamps? I also prop the wiper blades away from the windscreen (champagne corks work a treat) to stop them freezing on.

The high revs when fully warmed up on a cold day on a 1.4tsi is an unusual one.

I also instantly thought regen until I dug into your profile to see you have a petrol.

The only thing I could think of was that you had all (front and rear?) windscreen heaters on and the revs were increased to meet the extra load?.

turned everything off, and it still sat at the 1 mark, almost like a re gen, noticed today as soon as the temp reached minus 1.5 it dropped back to 800

Some petrols do have a high idle to warm up the catalytic converter quickly and to help fuel atomisation. Usually on startup but not a far stretch of the imagination that the same program kicks in below a certain temperature for the same reason

Only time mine has an idle that high when the engine is hot is when it the very odd time held against the brake but the dsg clutches still biting.
