Flashing Light on Dash!

Featured Replies

Hi guys......I've got a flashing warning light on the dash in the rev counter part. See attached image!

It starts once the car actually starts driving and keeps flashing.....though performance doesn't seem to be affected.

My first thought was glow plugs.....but the car starts as soon as the key is turned.

After some searching round it appears that this light is also used as a general warning light......which could mean anything from brake switch to a faulty bulb.

Anybody got any experience of this or general advice?

It is a general fault light, you need to get the codes read to narrow it down then come back with those codes for further help.

Checked your brake lights yet?

2nd wino s reply. My vrs fabia 1 did this. It was the brake light switch above brake pedal.

Diagnostic scan confirmed this at local inde garage.

There is a guide on here for replacing it. Not that hard a job.  Think the led rear brake cluster still worked ?part is around 15 quid mark

Cheers guys......seems lower brake lights are out.

The LED one at the top worked.......so do you think this could just be bulbs? Or more likely brake light switch?

The brake light switch works all the brake lights.

So if the switch does not work then all of you brake lights don't work.

Always check the bulb's first.

Many thanks.......I thought it was more likely to be bulbs considering the LED is fine.

I just found it odd that two would go together?

Problem solved! Both bulbs replaced (one had exploded) and good to go again.

Thanks for the help guys!

I too have previously experienced both the brake bulbs blowing at the same time.

Wow - I was much relieved to find both my brake lights had gone, but the LED still worked. Replaced them - and flashing goes after dabbing the brake pedal to let ECU all was well again. I got off lightly - I was thinking it was much more serious!  Thanks for helpful post!

Thanks for the explanation, sepelcrave , Manual only mentions glowplugs and a mention of what to do if it lights up constantly. I've had it lit for more than a few minutes and goes off on it's own , usually when engine is switched off. No bulbs gone ,that i can remember, but this was on constantly ,long after the time I'd expect the light to go out. I'll check brake bulbs next time. Makes me interested to get a code reader next time they are on offer in Aldi/Lidl.
