Rattling Hesitation..

Featured Replies

Hi All

Seem to have a couple of issues with the other halfs Octavia.

At around 2k rpm it sometimes almost feels like it has a massive hiccup when driving - this happens in any gear, at any load and at random times. I did take it back to the dealer initially but of course they found nothing wrong with the diagnostics and nothing wrong on a road test. Its obvioulsy not right, it is like a sudden power off and back on kind of feeling.

Also there is a loud rattle that is coming from the grill that is in the middle/top side of the dash  - does anyone know if this is removable at all? Didnt want to start attacking it and wreck it.

Thanks

i've had the "hiccup" issue since the car was new (2016)

took it to the dealer and they confimed this when test driving. i got the impression that this was a known fault and shoud be fixed in the next software update so i just had to wait for the release of the update... well , a year later and still no update. have had this so long now that i hardly notice it but still annoying to know it is there...

2L TDI ? What age/Model year?

On the 2L diesel, this is not uncommon, there are a couple of threads with many people having the same issue.

A few have been told by the dealer it is "emissions" related & cannot be changed but I'm pretty sure its just a bad calibration of the EGR or Throttle valve which closes temporarily when it shouldn't creating the hesitation.

However, getting the dealer to update the engine software & calibration seems almost impossible....

For the rattle I dont know but my car has several rattles from the maxidot, Dashboard & passenger A pillar....

I think this is one of the differeing factors between a Skoda & equivelant VW or Audi... Build Quality

2014 Vrs diesel, would I be looking at a remap for some improvement do you think?

The rattle definitely comes from the grill in the dash, if I tap it with my fingers it rattles (exactly the same noise). Is there a speaker behind there ?

What is this grill?

I dont have this grill on my 2014 vRS. Do you have the Canton audio upgrade? maybe an additional speaker?

Maybe someone with a remap could answer if it would improve the hesitation  but I would doubt it.

A remap or external tuning box will only increase the boost and/or the fuel injected.

Unless they have a lot of time on their hands to remap the entire airpath I doubt it would solve this problem.

I'm sure someone at VAG/Skoda could correct it easily but by the time these kind of faults are seen by customers, the development team are already working on the next generation engines so usually support for minor issues like this is limited.

I have no idea what is behind the grill, I thought it was just standard  I am not sure if it had the Canton upgrade - it doesnt have the sub unit in the boot so i presume not?

Would be nice to have the hesitation sorted but as you say chances are VAG/Skoda are probably not as interseted anymore

Looks like a speaker to me though...

If you turn up the stereo & increase the bass setting do you feel a vibration?

I'd imagine this will be quite difficult to remove from the top...

I'd guess the best thing is to ask at a Skoda garage for advise how to remove yourself?

If you find a nice technician he may give you the removal instructions..

But my feeling is its a dash out kind of job...

Mine has that grille, but no Canton. (Canton grille - sounds like a takeaway )

I do have that same bloody rattle tho :@

If it costs <£40 I'll smash the bu99er out to fix the rattle beneath and replace it with a new one...

For £15.95 I think I will take the risk and try and get the thing out :D
