Water pump siezed or tensioner issue? Something's caused that belt to go doo-lally.

They're saying that everything appears to be fine, just the damaged belt. It was also suggested that " something internal in the engine " may be the cause....

I asked them to check the tensioner stud for thread creep and didn't hear anything back.

Almost forgot

Also stated that they ( the garage)  in their professional opinion think that because my motor has been "remapped " that the extra power is to blame.

I have a suspicion where all this is heading

Happy new year all

Yeah, bad luck, they're wriggling (surprise, surprise) and victim blaming. Suggest you try to reach a compromise by saying that you'll pay for the new belt if they cover the labour, the parts and labour are guaranteed but to enforce that guarantee you'll probably have to go to trading standards and it could take months. This way they don't actually have to pay for anything, they just have to redo the belt.

A remap would not cause a timing belt to strip it's teeth, i'd say faulty parts, or something else/some one to blame,

Bering careful with my wording here you don't know who's viewing the forum.

Ooooh, you're so brave, I agree about the faulty parts though rather than the labour, it looks like the job was done right, the belt was just no good.

Belt does look dodgy. I recall mine looked slightly worn but clean when changed after 5 years (yeah, I know... :) ).

So, either the belt is crap and always was, or something's made it crap. If it overheated, something must have been rubbing on it.
