Not all corrode so badly.

Not even on a Skoda, SEAT, VW or Audi.

I wil;l not bore you of my SEAT outside, 13 m months old, 17,000 miles, 650 miles last week, 150 miles last journey on Tuesday and front and rear discs no rust,

and that was miles at around freezing, snow and salted roads and now 2*oC.

Issue. the discs that do rust too easily.

PS

My brake replacements are not for MOT reasons.

They are for cars going to shows. On displays.

Brings back memories of how horrid that Fabia is.

@Redspudder  Did you read the link I posted about my 230, Mine had a grating sound whilst turning right or starting off on an Incline. It was a faulty E-Diff replaced under Warranty.  Yours is grating

  • I don't think @themanwithnoaim makes a habit of that

Are you sure it's the brakes. I had a grinding/grating noise on my 230 and it turned out the E-Diff which was replaced under warranty.     Have a read.  MIght be related might not

Nippy though.

Ballast weights added to make slower than sister car and light at the front,

Crap brakes, crap suspension, no front fog lights, and goes just great and Skoda / VW just keep fitting new engines for free.

So you replaced them for purely cosmetic reasons? Not sure what that has to do with the price of fish then.  I don't care if my discs have corrosion after parking as long as I don't have to replace them every year.

Open your mind.

I replace because i use take off discs that came off cars being upgraded.

So on goes standard new discs that cost me nothing after the last set rust over a winter.

It is not difficult, i run car for 'long time mister F**** All day long', but not many miles covered in any one car.

Come going to the 1/4 mile or a show on goes 'Skimmed Discs' or replacements.

The discs coming off are like sharn (Horse Sh!t / Brown) the pads are like new.

This is with Skoda or VW's. or the odd Audi, not a Volvo, Suzuki or BMW, they stay bright and shiny. same environment, and humidity / weather / roads.

If i did buy for me or others to go on a Fabia  then a full set of Fedora were £114 including VAT.

You've lost me completely now.  It is difficult.

But I am content that you replaced brakes for different reasons than the average owner would, you would accept that?

You seem easily lost.

Point is we drive Skoda, and know some discs rust too easily, and other do not.

Sometimes the grinding is discs / pads / crap caught, sometimes you need to check what it is.

What is almost certain is that at Services Scored Disc get mentioned.

& on a Dealers Forecourt cars get taken for Italian Tune Ups, because they get washed almost every day, and you get to know the discs that corrode.

I used to wash and valet them, and refinish / prepare cars for sale.

I was a little shocked by the corrosion on the my discs hence posting the photo.  There is nothing caught on my car,  the grinding goes away within a few miles as the discs clean up, but is more noticeable than I would expect. I'm not telling anyone else that their experience is the same.

The thread is about grinding noises from brakes, I offered one possible explanation. If someone else wants to go to their dealer and complain about disc surface corrosion good luck to them, I don't have time for that, but I look forward to any feedback.  Doesn't mean I'm happy about it.

Well my discs/pads haven't cleaned up & the noise continues so, I've had them apart to find largish lumps of metal from the pads have badly scored the inside of the front nearside disc (see photos)

Apparently, there is metal in brake pads nowdays as asbestos has been banned from use. This would seem pretty crap for a car with only 4-1/2k miles on the clock but, being OEM do I really want another set albeit, FOC under warranty.
