Coolant Leak

Featured Replies

Hi guys

i found out where the coolant leak is from. Somewhere behind the pulleys. I took the picture from under the car. The pulley in the picture is the crankshaft one . When the engine is off it drips very very slowly. When it's on the drips are a lot more frequent. Does anyone know how to fix this? Water pump gasket?it looks expensive :(

If its the water pump gasket, its most likely needing the belt and water pump replaced as it CAN be the same job, labour-wise. (I refer to water pump etc on 1.4 diesel so may be different). It would be stupid to change the gasket and retain the old parts.

New water pump.

that's right. Diagnosed as leaking water pump. replacing the whole kit + ancillary belt for £440. It failed at 65k miles. I thought it would last a bit longer than that.

Failing at that is a bit early but its about the recommended area to change anyway. Most will not fail but the manufacturer will err to the side of caution so as to avoid costly warranty claims, sell more parts and labour etc and keep the wheels turning. You were the unlucky one, sorry to say but others will have swapped a perfectly good pump and belt, along with a chunk of dough, for peace of mind. Others will have got lucky and waited a fair bit longer and a few will have had a major disaster!

At least you will have a two year warranty on the new parts if its the main dealer!

not main dealer as I swore I will never go back to skoda/ VAG for any of it's services.

It's a an indi garage with original parts +1 year parks and labor.

Oh, I see. I get your point although I think I'd have checked the prices first to see if its the same as that extra year! Mind you, I do tend to dig my heels in a bit when it comes to being ****'d about. Insurance is my bug-bear. Hate paying too much but hate my own insurer upping the price thinking I will stay. I'll pay a (Little) Bit more elsewhere, just to send them a message so next time, they will be more competitive!

emission update done without permission and ruined a car i once loved (which i checked it's illegal as it wasn't a recall). had to fork out £350 for a remap which took it back to how it was. Injector was failing and i raised that with the garage that the cdar is not fine, 1 month after the warranty expired they diagnosed it  as failed injector. No good will gesture there for 50% 20% or even 1%.

So far in my experience every time i went to VAG i was f****d about.  "don't stand for nothing, fall for everything"
