Open All Windows with Keyfob?

Featured Replies

Curious... apparently somewhow using the remote keyfob, my wife managed to open all the windows (at the same time) and the sunroof.

I wasn't there to witness the event and she doesn't know how she did it (she was reaching down getting the baby out of car at the time) but thinks she pressed something on the key!

Is this a feature? Why would you want to open all 4 windows together? I can't see any reference to it in the manual!

if you hold open button for many seconds (maybe 10) they all open, great for summer!

Oh ok cheers! Simple explanation then!!

Press and hold the open button opens them. Press and hold close button closes them and folds the mirrors in. Well it does on the Yeti, anyway.

You can change it in the infotainment so that it only does the driver's window, rather than all 4 - if you want damage limitation from accidentally activating this feature! Assume it can probably be turned off completely with VCDS.

This has been a feature for years, my 2010 Mk2 Octavia did it.  If you've left your car in the sun in a hot climate its probably a nice way to reduce the internal temp fairly quickly.

my 06 golf GTI did it too. vw have had it for decades. you can VCDS that rain will auto shut this if its open as well,

Opening all the windows (and sunroof) works well if you have parked in a car park on a sunny day, by the time you've walked across the car park it's cooled down quite a bit

So did my 1999 Audi S3... and you could include the sunroof in the closing but not the opening.

Not a great feature when no-one tells you about it and you come to your car in the morning to find all the windows open and all the seats wet!

All the more reason for checking that your car is secure before walking away and leaving it parked  ;)

I think the point was that the car was secure when it was left.

I've found the boot or windows to my car open after the button on the key was squashed in my pocket. I have since invested in a cover for the key, which also stops it getting scratched by other keys.

Happened to me, having left the car secure, when I was doing work in the house and must have accidentally put pressure on the key fob without realising it. Wasn't raining fortunately.

Glad that Rodge and sweephand got the point even if some people missed it entirely. Feature can be turned off under electronic menus at Car > opening and closing > convenience opening.

Thanks

+1 to the list of people who have discovered that accidental pressure on key when moving around in the house has opened all 4 of the car's windows.
Luckily I went outside to do something and spotted the windows before too much damage had been done. And then I switched it off in Infotainment.

I played with mine today and if you long press the open button, the windows start to open and then stop after an inch or so. I have to long press and then keep it pressed in all the way for them to fully open. Is that how it should work? In which case, I'm not sure how people are doing it accidentally!

That's exactly how it's supposed to work. It means you can open it as little or as much as you want.

Ah, ok. I assumed it would go all the way down. Thanks for confirming.

No problem. To be honest it's handy the way it is, I'll use it to drop my windows an inch or two about an hour before leaving the office in the summer to let the trapped heat out before I get in.

  1. Car keys in pocket
  2. Something else in pocket
  3. People who sell trousers make pockets smaller over the years.
(I mean, why do they do this? It's not like smartphones are getting any smaller, is it? Logic would dictate that they would make pockets bigger, but no...)
  4. The thing in the pocket is pressed against the button on the key for extended length of time.

Happened to me too, absolutely no idea how but went to the car, all windows open and sunroof slightly open, keys had been on my belt clip so I guess I was leaning over something, I had to come onto this forum to check, as usual the answers were here

This is a feature, rather than a vulnerability?  Really??  If so, it is a feature I could well do without, having gone out to my car this morning, after a night’s rain, to find all the windows open and the interior very wet indeed! Fortunately, I had left nothing of value in the car overnight, but it is difficult to see a very wet interior as a benefit (which is what one expects a “feature” to deliver).

Your own bad luck doesnt make this feature a vulnerability. For example, Ive had VRS's for four years and have never came back to open windows and a wet car. Before that I had SEATs that had the same thing, for around 4 more years. Again not a problem. Before that I had a volvo that did this. Not a problem. See where I'm going with this? Its very useful, I can lower all the windows on my way to the car in the summer, throw my bag on the back seat through the open window and then get into a bearable car. On another note, if you are pressing buttons in your pocket you could just as easily unlock the car, so perhaps we go back to key opening 😂

if your key is in your pocket and you unlock your car by mistake the car will re lock its self after a few minutes , so never a problem

same cant be said about windows though
