Maybe a little extra fun at low cost ,low risk would be interesting in my 2nd Up GTi.

Perhaps a VW Up GTi UK challenge event beckons ?

As an UP GTI owner adding more power is missing the point, see my previous post, it's as much fun not having so much power but.... more importantly, whilst it is interesting that in the video the power curve is smoothed out, the slightly alarming thing is that the engine appears to be revved close to 1000 RPM after the normal rev limiter would kick in, so for an extra 15 hp you get the added benefit of watching three pistons explode through the bonnet 12 months later!

Get your drift,as pretty much my thoughts .

However, I remain very open minded ,as one of my purchase criteria was fun, so will see what is possible as a car can always be improved from the norm, in performance ,handling, ride and efficiency without going OTT and where possible staying within the warranty cover of the manufacturer and maybe have a look further if I hold on to it beyond that period.

Still ebelieve VW will enhance it's performance with an upgrade later and who knows maybe a Clubsport or even a Clubsport S as the model finally !?

One of the mantras of the Motor Industry is "Continuous Improvement "

Whilst I would commend them for going down this route I doubt there are any plans for such continuous improvement.

The waiting lists for the GTI are insane and the grumbles from customers who ordered in Feb/March that are still awaiting delivery are testimony to the fact that they've scored a home run with the GTI and can't build them fast enough. So I can't see them going down the route of adding a performance pack in the short term adding to production line delays.

The bigger issue is that VW are desperately trying to cut costs, so I don't see a clubsport version, especially as the dimensions of the car would mean that ultimate handling would be compromised and not worth the investment form VW.

A specialist tuner might look at such a development.

Competition from outside the UK . Engine tweaks for increased BHP and Torque. Sporty sounding   Exhaust ,

No mention yet of improvement  brake or suspension / handling. Early days for the tuners.

Do you have any idea what is the waiting time for delivery of a factory order Up GTI currently?

George , my new car coming is a 5dr ,I was quoted 5months, been ordered now a month, still waiting build date but 3dr are longer than that. Currently a increase of dealership used / ex demo car's being sold off, as replacement new stock being received for dealers and customer cars.

Think 3dr was being quoted as 8months maybe longer.

Are the Dealers 'used cars' selling like Hot Cakes meaning that people would be silly to trade one they own in at a dealers if they can get more selling privately?

Or are there ones sitting not moving because of too high 'asking prices'?

George up until about 2weeks ago there was barely  5 showing in UK ,either in VW used website and or Autotrader. As of this week there are around 15, some Jan 2018 (67) some (18) now (68) but may not be released until Dec 2018. Sure there is room for negotiation.

The delivery of new cars to customers is finally picking up but remains a painful exercise for those waiting. The waiting lists remain long circa 6 moths on new orders.

As a result the dealers are able to sell their ex demos for pretty much the full asking price.

The UP owners club are all up in arms about it and the general consensus is that VW underpriced the GTI and had no idea how popular it was going to be.

Interestingly, the car magazines labelled this a young person's car but a poll on the owners forum shows that the average age of people buying them is 40+!

Placed my order on my new 5dr high spec'd  car on the 16th August 2018 today had a build date week 51 ( today is week41) Estimated Delivery to my dealership is forecast for mid Jan 2019.

The worst deliver position persists to be on 3 dr model.

An even worse position exists with my partner's order for a Polo GTi Plus high spec. Not quoting a build date or delivery ,as very high demand. This was ordered also on the 16th Aug 2018.

The average of buyers you quote of 40 plus is interesting (where did you get that info from?) Perhaps they are the same as me ,remembering the fun they had in their Golf  GTi mk1. I was one of the first owners IN THE UK, back in the day, of the original Golf GTi mk1.  My age must be at the top end of the average age calc.

There was a poll on the UP Gti owners forum, where they asked people to comment on their age as it appeared that most buyers were older.

At 53, I was very much one of the standard buyers. I think a lot has to do with wanting a fun run around second car.

I look at the size of the current Polo it's bigger than the original Golf (and probably the Mk2 as well). Replacement models get bigger and heavier.

The UP GTI is superb I just wish it could have been a Citigo VRS

Not exactly a  rapturous  review for the car - each to their own as always.

9000 miles on mine now, hardly a drop of oil used and returning, on average early 50s mpg    , up for service shortly and puts a smile on my face every time I drive it and for relatively little financial outlay in todays terms.

Pretty much does what it says on the tin. Fun on A,B , C and City roads. Oh ! 200 mile round trip to London (mainly M4) , in acceptable comfort , 15 minutes slower each way ( pretty much same traffic conditions and same time of day)   , to the same destination as my Golf R 's,  for half the money .
