Creaking noise

Featured Replies

I posted this on 'Ask a Tech'. NO REPLY. So here it is again. Any ideas?

My car has developed a creak from somewhere on the front right. It seems to be a 'flexing' type of noise. First thing I checked was the strut brace bolts not tight. Thats fine. Its really annoying me. Any suggestions?

Have you checked the ARB bushes and links.

This is a common cause of such a noise on an octaivia I am led to believe, and it isn't like the 1.9TDI is a light engine in a fabia :)

Are you sure that it's not you subconciously whining to yourself about the fact your car isn't mapped ?

You might be going mad:insane:

There is a revised drop link for the Fabia, you could ask your dealer if you have those fitted. Part numbers on my website.

Sorry BUT if I ask a tech and there is no answer, do I forget it? How long am I supposed to wait? I merely reposted it to a more 'popular' area. Perhaps you could PM me the 'techs, so that I may ask them direct in future. Otherwise I fear that 'Ask a tech' will be a wasted feature and others, like me, will be forced to repost

Impatient person you!

Did you sort out your squeaky thingy ? Or have you resorted to Nytol?:D

my anti roll bar bushes creak now and again , had a word with a mate who worked in a rubber place and he got me some silicone spray so i just put the car on full lock and spray the bush , noise gone. (bushes were changed about 18months ago so i assume its road salt or something that causes this?)

Ask a Tech is not staffed by a pool of Techs on instant standby to answer Freedom members' queries. Ross, who I believe was the instigator of it, works in the daytime as a Skoda Master Tech and answers queries here as and when he can in his free time, as do other resident techs with access to that forum. If in future you post in that or any other forum and don't get a reply in what you consider to be a reasonable time, you are free to ask for your thread to be moved to another suitable forum. You can either do that by sending a PM to a Staff member or by using the Report Post facility . I am not aware of any of our Techs who wish to receive PMs from members asking for technical advice - they already give up enough free time for the benefit of all members. Finally, on the subject of reposting, I suggest that you refresh yourself on forum posting policy and etiquette here and on forum usage guidelines and details here.

Take it in where? The ****? You havent been meeting up with those queer hill walking types again have you?

Seeing as i didnt spot this post first out ill supply my answer now.

Does the creaking seem to come from behind the dash area? Maybe towards the right hand side? If it does then pop off the end trim by the fuse box. You will see two nuts that support the end of the crash bar that supports the dash. Give these a good tighten up. Had a few noises recently that have been sorted by doing this.

Now now, leave him alone, He's sulking because

A, he's been told off

B, His Fabia hasn't been mapped

C, he is still at school, so forgive him

I am sure he will take all the banter in good stead, He's just worried about his new baby after having a bad experiance with Renaults, and he really likes his Fabia, but mine is faster then his !!

Many thanks Ross. Ive booked it in on Saturday morning to sort the creaking. It sounds to be coming from this area as you describe. The dealer is also going to change the side light and main beam bulbs for me as well if the Silverstar H7's come in time from e bay. They tell me they can be replaced easily without having to take the bumper off, just removing the battery box gives enough access. Many many thanks for your help and your sensitive response Ross:thumbup:

So it is coming from the dash?

Chris

Nearside headlight bulbs really should be changed by an eight year old kid. Small hands make it much easier. My hands aren't huge, but I really do struggle with changing bulbs down there. Getting the headlight cover off is bad enough.

Offside is a doddle though. Loadsa room.

These bulbs being replaced are the sidelights and main beam H7's. The others are factory Xenons, thats why the dealer is doing it ;)

The dealer will tell me on Saturday. It certainly doesnt sound like the dash Chris

Car in the dealers today. It was the suspension bushes that needed a spot of grease. They changed my main beam and sidelight bulbs for me too. (Osram H7 Silverstars and 'Xenon look' sidelight bulbs) NO CHARGE !!

I'm really impressed with this dealer.
