Monkey Gate!

What's all this I'm reading/ watching about VW putting monkeys in gas chambers to see how the toxicity from diesel fumes effects them. I thought they'd be more sensitive about this considering their history.  :o

It beggars belief! Who in the VAG Hierarchy signs off things like this that will absolutely cause a backlash!  As If the VW dieselgate debacle wasn't enough to vilify diesel anymore than it already is they come up with another debacle.

I just love that European politician are slamming them for this.

Through tax structures and incentives, the governments of Europe basically did this experiment on a massive scale, with all of us who live here as the test subjects!

Angela Merkel, the German chancellor, said there was an urgent need for the company to reveal the true extent of the experiments, which were commissioned by the European Research Group of Environment and Health in the Transport Sector (EUGT), a body funded by Volkswagen, Daimler and BMW.

These tests on monkeys or even on humans are not ethically justifiable in any shape or form,” her spokesman, Steffen Seibert, said on Monday. “The indignation of many people is absolutely understandable.” (LINK)

And what precisely are you actually going to do about your indignation Ms Merkel?

Meanwhile, back on a beach in a part of Yorkshire, scaffolds are being built and ropes erected as the Brexit debate continues.:o

Daimler condemning the study is a bit... laughable, given they funded it too..

This sounds bad, maybe im gettin excessively cynical as i approach middle age but... Should we be surprised that manufacturers have been (knowingly or not of the methodology) involved in research to try and prove that their product isnt as harmful as other science says it is..

Just like big tobacco, and the US sugar industry did to make fat the villian..

Science is so starved of impartial money that it'll often take research funding that is clearly provided with an agenda. A competent scientist can build a study that will be rigorous and still be weighted to produce the results wanted by the 'customer'.

But in this instance I'd have thought that pretty much anyone would have seen that chaining monkeys in an airtight box then gassing them with your new SUV is likely to produce negative headlines even if your new engines fart flowers.

I hate that the media are bashing VAG again when Daimler & BMW were involved & up to their necks in it....

Much like when all the cars were re-tested (EQUA) & VW cars polluted the least & the worst were French manufactures & loads of other makes....was this turned into a media witch hunt??

No just bash VW some more...

Way back in the mid 90's Germany had major problems with diesel pollution, & we were just starting to get behind lean burn (FIRE) petrols....then various lobby groups went for Diesel over petrol because of CO2...diesel has less than petrol.....so forget the soot particulates which some scientists at the time were raising serious concerns about....

Then various Gov bodies took up diesel as the saviour to the greenhouse gas problems...but totally ignored those saying ...be carefull about soot etc....

So we then have more problems & then these so called test to prove the new euro 5 & euro 6 etc regs will solve the soot problems....

so to solve the problem add even more complex systems, machinery etc...not clever...so fudge the test as the new ad one don't work in real life

oh & petrol can meet the new Euro6C with just swapping the first cat with a better one....nothing more than that...

Some of us have had our eyes open for ages.....
