How often should a dpf light come on for regen

Featured Replies

Get an ODB2 ELM237 Bluetooth adapter from amazon/fleabay and download VAG DPF from Android Play Store. You can then monitor the condition of the DPF and see when an active regen is due. This will also confirm what enginer software version is on.

My wife's 1.6TDI 105 is on 63,000 and although mostly town driven with a regular trip on the motorway every couple of weeks, but the app shows her Ash content at 26g and 38% full - although I've read elsewhere that the 'full' point is around 45g-50g when it will need to be replaced??

Hers would run rough when doing an active regen, jerky throttle response, loss of power low down, physically shake the car when sat at a junction, and I found out from a Golf forum that it was a common issue, and updating the engine software to the latest pre-fix version solves a lot of the issues. Had this done at Shark (hers was originally on 7505 and I had it updated to 9971 - my mums is on 9972 but this was the latest available without the 'fix' for my wife's) and it has improved things no end. It no longer shakes when idling (a slight judder at the most!), and throttle response is hardly any different to normal - you can still feel a 'slight' loss of power low down but again much better than before.

Ditto, mine is on the latest (pre-fix) software and does exactly what you say.... a very gentle shake but i have not noticed any loss of power, i have NOT had the fix done though and will not be doing this in the future !

Directly off topic but relevant as I would like to check my car to know if time change it before any DPF full issues.

I always understood that the basic code readers e.g. ELM327 did not work with the 1.6 CR TDi engine and the only system available was Rosstech.

How do you select the ELM327 that will work with the 1.6 CD TDi ?

To the Op, I would say reject the car without delay.

Continuing guessology and supposed cures, will take you outside the date when you can return the vehicle. At 73K, you have bought into the time of all the known problems that are well documented throughout this forum for many years.

I agree with 2nd Skoda

Carista works fine

From data I have been given the DPF will run until 70g

it regens about every 300 to350 miles is this too often? is it because the dpf is getting full of ash? have always used the recomended oil and been serviced every 10000 mls regardless of the service reminder

I had my fixed car rolled back to 9970.  I get regens around 3-400miles or 480mins, I drive mostly on the motorway.  I get a mix of passive and active, mostly active because the car doesn’t get hot enough driving economically (<65mph).  I’ve no idea why the Golf and the Seat gets 65-75mpg out of this engine, something must be different, the Skoda weighs naff all and is hardly brick shaped.

Can understand what you mean, we average 46mpg where our old 1.9 jetta was 50+

I got the one recommended by the VAG FixFail group on facebook. Mines a Proscan Bluetooth ELM327, cost me £10 from fleabay. There are cheaper ones but there were mixed reports of them working, whereas this had good reviews. No problems so far, used on my wifes 1.6, my 2.0 and several others. Works with Crista too from what I've read (not tried myself as I also have VCDS).

Roaming off topic perhaps?

Would still suggest rejection of car if this is still an option.

Thanks - I should have clarified that I can use either Android on Phone or Tablet or Windows on a laptop but do not have access to an iPad or iPhone.

I have just ordered eBay item  301205091809. The listing specifically states 1.4 version not 2.1.
