last day for TDI VRS orders?

Featured Replies

A newbie, so hello to all!

Been lurking on this site for many weeks while deciding on my next car.

After many Head V Heart discussions with myself I decided to go for the VRS TDI Estate over the Superb Sportline. My reasoning for this being that I had a 170 Superb  Estate TDI SEL Executive for 3 years before my current car which is a Mazda 6 Estate 2.2 Sport Diesel 175ps. In 3 years time, when my lease is up on the VRS I'll probably go back to the Superb, but I just have to do the VRS thing. Its been a longing for too long.

I nearly went for the VRS 3 years ago but chose the Mazda. While I missed the size of the boot etc from the Superb, the Mazda has definitely been a sportier drive than the Superb. But also the Mazda has had firmer suspension. I have test drove the VRS and would say it would be very similar ride to that of the Mazda Sport in terms of firmness. does anybody else have Mazda 6/Vrs experiences?

So it has come down to the Superb Sportline or VRS. I realise that the Superb will be more refined but I just had to go with the VRS. After pricing around, I got some prices and went back to the Belfast Skoda dealer who was able to match my best price on contract hire rates for a 3 year deal.

However I specced my TDI VRS Manual Estate with the upgraded Alcantara seats, Black pack (not plus as I think the ride on the 19" wheels will be too harsh and for 25k miles per year!), Folding mirrors and Canton and in Black magic. But unfortunately I received a call from my dealer today to say that the Alcantara seats are no longer available as an upgrade. On top of that, the fact that today was now the last day of ordering the VRS as after today they cannot take any more production orders.

I've been reading all about the situation with the 245 and the 230 petrol situation and that production is now on hold until the summer, according to this board, but this was news to be this afternoon about the diesel version also now being 'on hold'. Has anybody else heard this?

Hopefully the order has gone through, but very frustrated that I can't get the upgraded seats! But still very excited to be finally joining the VRS world when my car arrives in June. I just hope that I've made the right decision in the VRS over the 150 Manual Sportline Estate. Why manual? I just don't like automatics. Maybe one day I will but just not now. Plus I feel more in control with a manual and obviously the better fuel consumption especially doing 25k miles a year!

For the record, since its a very decisive topic on this board, I think the FL Octavia looks a lot better than the pre FL. But thats just my opinion and especially so in Black, which really is the best colour for the VRS naturally!

I just don't want any of you to tell me that I should have gone for the Sportline. Do you hear me??

Currently 2.5 years into a similar specced combi vRS, love it would never change it but maybe for a FL vRS. Based down south in ROI was in the dealership recently looking at options and was told the diesel would be discontinued, I scoffed but maybe for once they were telling the truth, I suspect it’s for an engine change as it’s a big seller, but surely that would just change with my19 updates etc, I suspect it may be a change to a euro7 engine, I’m sure we’ll see at Geneva next week. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it and it’s much more dynamic than the superb.

That makes interesting reading re: VRS tdi orders.  After years I've finally convinced the HR dept to let me have a VRS estate rather than the usual humdrum cars normally offered. They then faffed around for months changing lease companies. As a result the delay meant I too have had to forgo the alcantara upgrade. I was told the order had been placed this week with the lease Co and they gave a date of early June. We will see, wouldn't be surprised if I find out next week this deadline was also missed.

If the alcantara upgrade wears anything like the alcantara in my old MK2 vrs then you have done well to avoid it to be honest. Although with a lease car it probably matters less anyway.

I’d wait and see what is announced at Geneva, might be a better spec available if a couple of weeks delay isn’t important for you.

Yea the Belfast dealer tole me that they might announce a new 'upgrade' of seats over the next couple of months. It just depends where Skoda can source a new fabric. If this happens, he told me that we can still add it into the spec as long as it happens if my build number hasn't actually started in the factory.

I did call him back yesterday to confirm that my order has been accepted ok, because as like you, burtracoon, I'm now not going to be completely surprised if I receive a call next week saying that the order wasn't accepted on time, despite being told, 'everything should be ok'!

I guess orders will be processed until the quota of 2 litre 184 PS engines is allocated.

Basically this version of the engine is being dropped.  Can’t find info for new Octavia diesels, but following is for Superb petrol engines (from Czech forum), so generally production of existing engines ends week 26 (end June)

  • Production stops 1.8 TSI 132 kW 180PS (week 26)
  • Production stops 1.4 TSI 110 kW 150PS (week 26)
  • Production stops 2.0 TSI 162 kW 220PS (week 26)
  • Production stops 2.0 TSI 206 kW 280PS (week 26)
  • New motor 1.5 TSI 110 kW 150PS (week 36)
  • New motor 2.0 TSI 140 kW 190PS week 48)
  • New motor 2.0 TSI 200 kW 272PS (week 36)

the new petrols gain a gasoline particulate filter

clearly a a lot of retooling is going on, and maybe some Diesel engine production is being converted to petrol engine production.  There is also a new CNG (compressed natural gas) engine coming

Dont know if OP is allowed CNG engines by his HR section

The TSI VRS will get the 245ps as standard. I'm hoping for the biTurbo 238ps diesel to replce the CR184 but not holding my breath

New options  and trim levels will always be of interest. The challenge comes when working for a large and very rigid organisation to try and spec something off list.  After months, in fact years off lobbying the right people and getting a car signed off with a spec I'm very pleased with and to be honest thought I'd never see, so to find order dates and trim specs discontinued is disheartening from the point of view that I know to go back through the process won't be an option. It will be a case of well just choose something else from the list that can be delivered sooner. I'm sure it will all work out but in the meantime I do wonder if I will see a VRS on the drive. 1st world problems I know.

The 238PS Diesel engine is supposed to go in the VRS version of the Karoq according to press releases.

I had full Alcantara in my 16MY Scout and it looked brand new after 2 years, so much so that I got another one. It was one of the issues that put me off ordering a VRS as I wanted the alcantara over the cloth seats.
