Skoda Fabia 2006 Estate - Headlight adjustment

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm looking to export my 2006 Fabia Ambiente TDI PD 100 to France this year however I'm confused about changing the lights from driving on the left to the right. The car has halogen headlights.

I've been informed that the dipped headlights can be adjusted horizontally via a headlight beam alignment adjustment thumbwheels (see attached image) on the top of the headlight. However can they be adjusted far enough for European driving or do I need to replace the headlights?

Thanks, Nick

you need to replace the lights. The adjusters will only move the beams not change the direction of them.

Thanks. I've been quoted over £400 for a genuine pair from Skoda but seen OEM compatible lights for a fraction of that price.

those should be available in lhd

Few months ago huge price difference between Hella (alias OEM) and TYC made me go for TYC halogen headlights.

Reason for replacement- OEM lens were in bad condition after 11 years (polishing didn't helped because of old polycarbonate with web inside).

Here's my experience with new TYC's:

"-"

little misting on corners of glass, sometimes (btw, 11 years old OEM lights misted NEVER- not a single spot!);

W5W parking light bulb carriers falls out from reflectors (now fixed with isolating tape);

low light beam pattern is with little "spots" > tested with new H7 Osram Cool Blue Intense and Night Breaker Laser bulbs. But reflector and lens looks ok; those spots are noticeable on the road but not on the wall.

"+"

light pattern on wall is very sharp, with straight lines.

OEM Hella never have had such a nice ^^ pattern even when new- but somehow gave bit' better light on road anyway- even with Std bulbs. And was no need for tests with expensive short-term-playing bright bulbs, hmm;

light on the road is ok- but expected a bit' more from new headlights;

sweet price.

So, I experienced paradox how nice pattern on wall gaves just acceptable (but not more) light on the road.

Looks like all is about correct geometry and quality of mirror coating on reflector...

Id have thought there would have been some sort of standards the lights should be made to but clearly not in some cases!

My oem hella halogens were crap, beam was just a big bundle of light in the middle, no kick up or anything and have seen a few fabias with this whilst driving behind them.

Maybe DEPO is worth a look instead, they usually get decent reviews.

Usually bundle of ligth points to incorrectly installed bulb and/or bad bulb.

But when you see horizontal line- then all must be ok with installation.

Mine OEM lights (LHD car) also suffered from "weak kick-up"- especially, left; but horizontal line was present.

Depo or TYC? Usually both costs ~same. And before purchase I spent damn many time in forums to find what's better (D or T)- and didn't find clear answer, ha.

:-) good reviews of Depo  / no bad reviews of TYC > and I went for TYC that time :-)

Ive seen quite a few people with vrs's buy the depo ones for the black inserts look, and no complaints, (other than the fact halogen headlights are quite rubbish anyway)

I checked Depo with chrome or black insert, TYC with chrome or black insert, Hella (aftermarket) with chrome insert and OEM Hella with chrome or black insert, before purchase... like this look of headlights with black insert very much...maybe, it's a best part of my TYC, haha.
