Headlight lens fading/degrading

Featured Replies

Hi,

Over our summer the left headlight lens has started to degrade. Its on its way to becoming opaque like most plastic headlights do. Has anyone had experience on cleaning up their Superb's lights?

If it is from the outside, I guess you could have them polished, if it is on the inside, that might be a bit more difficult (it can be done, but would mean you need to dismantle the headlight (separate the glass from the housing)

Thanks, sorry I should have noted its on the outside.

I've used a cream toothpaste on a soft cotton cloth to rejuvenate clear plastic on rear lights. I'd test a small area using a Q-tip first though.

Excellent, thanks, will give it a go tonight and report back!

I have used one of the lens cleaning kits on a previous MK1. This kit comprised of medium to ultra fine sand paper discs that are used via a battery powered drill. Finally finished with a compound also with a drill. It takes b*lls to start cos after the first run with the medium disc the headlight is trashed but after the full procedure it was 90+% as good as new. I was well surprised as my headlights were an advisory on an MOT due to discoloration of the  lens.

It took about 1 hour per lens and the finish was great, also included was some anti ultra violet cream to stop further probs. The kit cost around £20 and there was enough stuff supplied to do 2 lens and some left over. Mine was a 3M kit, I recommend it.

As above well worth the investment for the kit:cash:

regular or even occasional polishing with gtechniq P1 and buffing with C2 will prevent this and the p1 is capable if removing feint uv degradation on its own.
