Hello everyone, new joiner here I've got a 2017 Yeti diesel that I bought for towing a folding camper, something it does very well.

 

Shortly after buying it, I had a main dealer fit the Westfalia towbar and official wiring kit to keep on the right side of the warranty etc. However... when I checked the 13 pin socket, pin 10 (switched 12V) had nothing on it at all when the engine was running. Checked this out with the dealer and they said that they fit the main loom from the fusebox to the rear of the car, and a sub-loom up at the front to get the permanent 12V supply for pin 9 but the sub-loom they fit doesn't cater for the switched 12V.

 

Doing a bit of digging around, there's a different Westfalia sub-loom part no. 300 028 300 113 which has the power pickup from the fuse box(es) for both pins 9 and 10 and includes a relay to get the switched power. I asked the dealer if they could swap out as an upgrade, but they said they couldn't get the part or fit it.

 

Has anyone put switched 12V on their Yeti using the Westfalia part? It's not life or death, but it would be nice to be able to charge the leisure battery while driving along and have a working fridge on the longer drives as well. Failing that, any recommendations for towbar electric companies in mid-Essex who might be able to advise/quote for a retrofit?

As you have found there are 2 looms, one that gives fridge/battery charging and one that doesn't.
Why your dealer can't obtain it I do not understand, as it is a standard part., and the ftting basically parallels the normal towing loom.

 

I my personal opinion it isn't worth bothering with. The amount of pwer it gives to the battery is minimal; just look at the thickness of the wire, and if you load the fridge with cold stuff it will stay cold for at loeast 12 hours. I've driven from here to Brittany, including 6 hours on the ferry and still had cold beers when we arrived.

you have witnessed a pet hate of mine, and others. Skoda designed the 13 pin electrics for what is normally required on mainland Europe. The arguement that you have a UK car for the UK market makes no difference. You get what they think you want. You require what is often referred to as "full functuality" on your 13 pins. It was standard for Skoda not to supply this,. A factory fit detachable swan neck with reduced 13 pin electrics was excellent value at about £500. After market fit to get the battery charging and fridge power is going to cost you about another £200.

Thanks for the speedy replies, much appreciated. In short, £200 sounds a bit more than I think it would be worth at this stage.

 

I've got a 40 litre electric coolbox, and the Yeti does have a 12V socket in the boot so that's my plan B.
