Huh, bet it wouldn't stay with a remapped 245 with 302bhp, piloted by a driving god

Pity it’s missing the digital cockpit, anyone who has been in my car was instantly impressed with it

Barely missed it on mine - a few months older and I would have got it, but then if I did... It means the car would be brand new, which mine almost is ;)

Test drove this car - very few options. Paint, ACC and side blades only IIRC. Bought mine new factory order with many options for less than this - but only 4 months into a 7 month wait!

I guess they are cheaper than I realised then.

The appeal of a ready-built car is there, but caution and taking time is probably the shout.

I had been looking at a lovely red ST without the 4wd or digital dash, it was a good bit cheaper, for otherwise very similar spec, but I’m a gadget freak and once I saw the digital dash I had to have it, and then there was the small matter, of the traction on the 4Drive

Forget caution, simply apply the man maths formula and go for it, you won’t regret it!

Demand for the 2.0 petrol unit across the VAG brand and the WLTP emissions are playing havoc with orders - at this rate super-unleaded will be £2 per litre by the time it actually arrives in September.

Economy is much better than I expected my 20km commute this afternoon returned 38mpg, now it was at a leisurely pace as I was on a conference call and needed to try and do things at once. I know it’s only the onboard reading but if it’s as accurate as the Octavia I’ll see only about 90 miles less to a fill and that was an oil burner

The 300 Cupras are a cracking buy with some brilliant deals on pre registered delivery mileage models.

Although many are lacking in the desirable spec as has already been pointed out.

Personally if I had to choose a car for £25k that ticks the all the boxes then it would have to be a Superb 280. There’s a few brand new ones loitering around at dealers now looking for new homes especially as the new model is imminent.

Some great deals to be had on models in current stock.

Are there really well specced 280s available at £25k? L&K, Sportline?

I’ve found a hatch 280 SE-L with 10k miles at £23k, but estates (I know you didn’t specify hatch or estate) with decent options seem to be commanding strong money still.

There certainly is.

I almost bought a brand new, delivery mileage 280 Sportline Hatch

The spec was Dragon skin with Front sensors and spare wheel.

That was for sale for £24,880.

Dealer couldnt sell it.

Personally I think it was down to the colour being a love or hate option.

Instead, I opted for a brand new 18 plate 245 Octavia DSG estate with Pan Roof, moon white and spare wheel for similar money.

That was from dealer stock and not a factory order.

As much as I love my 245, I regret not going for the 280 now.

I actually quite like the Superb also - in the right trim it can be quite a looker but... Nimble it isn't.

I currently don't need as much space as I did before and I like a car that I can drive spiritedly on a back road or occasionally throw around a track. The Superb is a "cruiser".

And also in the city I found the Leon much easier to live with than the Octavia (and the Octavia is smaller than the Superb)

One of my colleagues has a V90 as a company car and quite regrets it, saying it is a PIA to park it anywhere.

At some point when my company was in a temporary office, he could not come to work by car because it wouldn't physically fit on the parking slots :) :)

...I mean, it would, but he could not open the doors :)

Yesterday I travelled a few kms in the city on the next lane near to a black Superb wagon and it looked damn nice - we were checking each other's car :)

Thanks Edd, interesting.

Your Octy is very similar to mine then - white 220 DSG with Pan roof and Columbus - if a little faster!

I’m thinking 280 next, but in about 2 years’ time, hopefully for less that £20k. My only concern, as Jaco says, is the size  when in town, especially as Mrs Dunc will be at the helm fairly regularly.

And someone who feels the need to constantly prove himself is either having an inferiority complex, insecure or just plain arrogant.

...maybe all of the above.

Jealous? If you drove some great car, one could potentially be jealous.

Of some plain VRS245? Sorry... VRS302, no!.

Go read your posts in general (not only on this thread, but on others...) and see how frequently you feel the need to mention your car has been remapped and the power figures.

It gets old, really. We all got the picture already.

...it is not that much to write home about, that power.

It’s only recently that I moved back to the Skoda fold but as Briskoda encompasses all marques and as I’m also a SEAT driver, I really don’t think we need to have a name change. ;)

Having a car remapped - and even the CR170 which went up by 35bhp made such a big difference to how it drove then I’m sure the 245 (or was it the 230?) improving to 300+ would also show such a marked improvement.

However the Cupra also goes up to 370 with a stage 1 map and ‘Cupra’ mode is Savage with a capital ‘S’! :tongueout:
