DTUK experience

Featured Replies

I have had two 2litre diesel octavias before getting my 150 diesel Superb. I had both of them remapped, and they both ran great. But my new (to me) Superb is still under warranty so I was a bit suspect of another remap.

After reading through the forum on other peoples experiences I decided to go for a DTUK tuning box and something I havn't tried before, a pedal box.

I was going up North, near their premises, so contacted DTUK and arranged to go in and pick up a CRD3-tri tuning box and a pedal box plus.

When I arrived, Simon introduced himself and offered to fit the two devices for free. Obviously I accepted, although it did look very easy to fit them.

Simon then spent about 45 minutes with me explaining how the units worked and testing out various settings on the tuning box. He suggested that I get the tuning box set up to my liking before trying the pedal box. This I did, and settled on program 2 +1. I have so far just tried the pedal box on the eco (lowest) setting.

Thanks Simon.

The car has been transformed, the throttle is now much more linear, with the first bit of throttle travel no longer acting as a flat spot/lag. Now giving instant response and noticeably more power. As a bonus, on the journey back from my brothers house, the car told me that the avg consumption was 59.4 mpg!!! now I know that is unlikely to be correct, but even allowing for a 10% error I'm delighted.

re insurance. I called my old insurer (direct line), and because the box gave more than a 20% increase in bhp, they could not insure it. As they could not offer insurance, they did not charge me a cancellation fee ( thanks direct line). I had 10 months left and they refunded me £180. I set up a new policy with LV, and made sure that they know about both the tuning box and the pedal box, the premium for 12 months was £186, so I've even saved money on insurance!!

Summing up, the car has noticeably more power, is much better to drive with instant throttle response, uses less fuel and has even saved me money on insurance.

Only downside is that if/when the car has to go back to skoda i'll have to remove the tuning box (probably only a 10 minute job).

If you are thinking of trying a tuning box or a pedal box, I'd recommend both.

cheers

Ian

I've not felt the need for more power, but +1 on the pedal box. Worth every penny.

Can I infer from your remarks re: Direct Line that a pedal box would not be a problem, as it does not increase power?

I have the DTUK pedal box on my 220 and it does transform the driving experience. I think I have it so the amber light is on and 1 of the plus LEDs are lit.

They do an ECU upgrade to 306 BHP and 440 torques but putting that much power through the front wheels is asking for trouble.

I did mention the pedal box to DL, but because they only came back about the tuning box which was a show stopper, we didn't get to discuss the pedal box.

I spoke to LV, who didn't have a category for the pedal box, so he said it didn't affect the premium. I got him to make a note against my policy stating that I had a pedal box fitted.

If anyone is interested in a pedal box and/or tuning box for a 150Tdi then PM me. I know of some coming on the 2nd hand market.

I’ve just ordered the same Box for my 150ps Superb, but not the pedal box.

I was wondering about optimal settings.

I see you’ve selected 2 +1

I usually drive in Eco mode, is this a noticeable difference?

Hi Chris,

Its not so much about optimal, but about what best suits your driving style.

I tend to drive in normal mode all the time, I havn't felt the need to use eco as I am getting much better figures from my superb than I did with the last Octy.

cheers

Ian

Slow & steady Ian, but like to open it up occasionally on the motorway. Think I’ll start off with dynamic (2) + 1 & see how it goes.

Currently consumption is similar to my previous Octy, but enjoy the bigger fuel tank so less visits to fill up.

Looking forward to having that extra power up my sleeve though for when the road conditions permit.

Have you found that the standard in car modes have any affect when using the box ?

Hi Chris,

I certainly agree re the larger fuel tank, the octy tank is too small.

My octy was a dsg, so I used to run around in eco all the time, mainly so that it would coast and save fuel, then if I needed any extra punch a quick pull on the gear stick got me sport mode. My Superb is a manual so I don't need eco to coast :-), so far I havn't felt the need to try anything other than "Normal" mode.

Even in normal mode I am getting much better mpg figures than I got on the DSG octy in eco

cheers

Ian.

My last Octy and the Superb are DSG. That’s exactly how I drive... Eco, lots of coasting and a quick flick of the lever for that extra punch...to get past buses etc..

I love the DSG boxes.

A new toy that I love is the adaptive cruise control, perfect for slugging along the M60 in the tea time traffic. Flick it to 30mph and just let the car virtually drive itself.

It took a bit of getting used to, trust wise, but now I just let the car get on with it. Once the traffic starts flowing again I just put my foot down again. Perfect !

When in ACC mode the Eco figures stay at the top bars too !

Do not get exited about consuption too much. I have driven 230 000 km with DTUK CRD-T+ on my Superb II 170 now and I can assure the consuption is the same as without box. But - more power at the same consuption = economy.

Otherwise brilliant box.

Thanks linni. Fitting tomorrow, then a good trial run. Looking forward to it.

You can try different settings, but internet community suggests and myself use P2 S2.
