The diesel dilemma

The very latest diesel claim to be very good on the NOX front ie about half of the maximum allowed but this need verifying under the new official measurement.

But add to this the new diesels, particularly in the UK, are more expensive to buy and run, fuel prices are up, and there is less money around with UK inflation far outstripping UK wages rises.

Interesting Jaguar Land Rover is still backing diesel with 90% of its production/sales.

Clearly some electric sales will kick in soon but they are expensive models ie more than twice the average wage in the UK!

Like the UK and world economy whether to go with one more diesel car before giving them up for ever (some countries want diesel and petrol banned from sale in 11 and a bit years time) and many people seems to be postponing decisions on next car due to so much uncertainly.

At least it is looking like we will not be paying and extra 10% import duty on all those cars the UK imports from the EU, and visa versa, delayed until 2021 at least !

JRA need to get their engine development investment back.

It occurred to me the other day that diesel wins over petrol in two ways.

The natural/thermodynamic advantage of higher compression ratio making it lower CO2 than petrol.

Then - more controversially - the higher output of NOx gases kills  more people; fewer people is also a good way of reducing man-made CO2 emissions. :)

Less people will also reduce global temp increase rates - less people means less "hot air output"

So lower overall air temps ;)

Actualy, by that same theory if we removed all global governments, and governing bodies, we would probably reduce the hot air production enough to lead to refreezing the ice caps..

Well I suppose the majority of military machinery also runs on diesel. Filling the streets with tanks would achieve your outcome quicker.

Nah, would slow the traffic flow too much.

You obviously haven't seen me driving a tank.
