Yellow engine light

Featured Replies

Hi all, im hoping someone can help me. Ive own a ‘56 Reg Fabia 1.4 16v Ambiente.

I parked on a hill yesterday leaving the car runningwhilst my wife popped into the bank, when another driver parked in front of me very close to the front of me.

so i wanted to reverse up hill away from the back of the car that had parked in feont of me. I put it in reverse, but as i started reversing i didnt give it enough revs and very nearly stalled it, but when i dipped the clutch, it cane back to life.

When this happened, the yellow engine light immediately came on the dash and has stayed on ever since. The car still drives fine, no noises or loss of power, just this light on the dash.

i know i should get it plugged in for the codes etc, but it just seems really strange that the light came on at the exact same time as me nearly stalling it.

Any thoughts at all? Is it ok to drive? Many thanks in advance.

Look, they're only golden, not crystal.

I have no idea what that means!

Try disconnecting the battery, leave a few minutes then reconnect, worth a try

Is that known to work sandman? And do i need a code for the radio when I reconnect the battery, or is it one of those systems that recognises the car?

thank u sandman

I'm afraid I can't help with the radio but some models need the windows re-setting, disconnecting the battery sometimes resets the system, some warning lights can sometimes be reset by turning the ignition on and off about five or six times with about ten second intervals inbetween ( without starting engine), wish KenONeil would get to the point;)

Thanks sandman....yeh i wish he would too. I dont do riddles and have no idea what golden/crystal round objects have got to do with my engine light :)

He doesn't have a crystal ball so could you be more explicit with a description as to which warning light came on.

GAG, i get it now. To be fair to me, everyone else seemed to know what light i meant. Apologies for confusion. Its the yellow engine symbol. Control system for exhaust gases apparently.

I think you are right that everyone seemed to know what light you meant.

Just a guess and it may not be this but when you nearly stalled the car the exhaust sensor may have become clogged with excess fuel in the exhaust gas. Provided the car is running as it should, you could try running the car on the motorway for about 20 minutes to see if that clears the sensor out and resets it. If that doesn't work it looks like you will have to get things checked out at the dealers.

Thanks GAG, i might give it a go down the motorway, see what happens :)

@georgiedavids1006 - Yes "balls", and it means that however good I am at diagnostics all I know from "I've got a CEL" is that you have fault codes, but I'd need a crystal ball to know what they are and hence use them for a fault diagnosis!
