Bentley build quality

Featured Replies

I still can't believe Bentley are letting cars out like this. Zoom in on the left and right light clusters. One's too high and the other side is too low.

Give me Skoda fit and finish any day.

Optical illusion.

But helps the Fitter that puts on squint registration plates.

Arnold Clark Motor Group have special templates to be sure Registration Plates are squint.

They have to or there would never be so many out there that are.

No it’s not an optical illusion, the left side is fine but the right side is not level I think the boot is a little high on the right.

The last thread showing a Bentley bad alignment was just a few weeks back.

Then it was the person pushing down the boot while polishing that was mentioned.

That will be VW Group quality for you then.

EDIT.

I'm sorry but I have no idea what you are talking about.

The person polishing is on the wing so how could he be pushing the boot down?

Next time I’m up at their factory in Crewe I will take a look.

Knowing the manufacturer as I do, I reckon this is an optical illusion too.

facet edge.

Just a Scottish thing before they got big, and has been the same for decades.

Squint Registration plates.

Check out cars with YELLOW ARNOLD CLARK stickers on the rear glass, and see how many have squint plates.

Harry Fairbairn BMW as well.

Mercedes from Arnold Clark dealerships as well.   4 screw plates they still get them out of line.

PS

I never said it was the polisher, never watched the programme, and have no idea if he had a sidekick at the other side of the car.

Derren Brown needs to be the one you need to ask.

Squint = Scottish for not straight, yeah?

Exactly.

like someone might have with an eye.  Have a squint.

But 'Not straight or level' in this case.

What dull cars these luxury SUVs look. Reminds me of these and others of that era.

I think it looks off, but it could be an issue with the way the light hits the inset edge and chrome trim. I have way too much time on my hands so have added a larger/rotated version. Also added another with a thumbnail insert of the identical image… looks much, much worse in the lower quality thumbnail.

BTW, the number plate is definitely squint

I'm sorry @AwaoffSki but I have not heard that expression before.

Anyway, I was not talking about the number plate it was the rear lights that annoy me. The alignment is atrocious.

Daft design. Doubly daft with the chrome to emphasise misalignment.

Saw one the other day. The whole thing's pig-ugly. Who gives a crap about the lights when the rest of the car looks completely 5h1t?

So what are you trying to say?

That's why I don't always get the fuss around things being 'hand built'. Robots are much better at it.

If you have a dig around you'll find Guy Martin's posts about his Aston and how disappointed he was with the build quality. I think it's quite common for very expensive cars too actually be worse put together than a Korean shopping cart.

You can't make an accurate evaluation on alignment from one photo and one camera angle.

Mine must have been a good day at Arnold as my plates were straight.

For the benefit of our Anglophile readers, let me help with the use of the word "SQUINT".

1- That number plate is SQUINT = That number plate has not been put on straight with reference to the lines of the car.

2- I've had a SQUINT= I've taken a look at .

Must have been the Bentley prototype for the Bentayga. Wish they had launched the production model looking like this would have been an improvement.:tongueout:
