If you go for a 1.6 TDI CR you might want to be sure it has not had the VW Group Emission 'Fix', so no New Engine Management and plastic tat in the air intake.

If it has you might want one with a 'Roll back', and maybe a Remap.

Others with them might be along to advise.

If a 1.2 TSI not an early one, chain tensioner issues possibly.

?

What is your budget?

Is a Monte Carlo 'Tech' not a 1.2 TSI  or 1.6TDI CR?

'Tech' being what they brought out to get sales moving as the RRP was a bit high and they were shifting few.

Be sure of what the engines / power of cars you see, there are some mis-advertised.

There are Monte Carlo

1.2 12v 69ps

1.2 TSI 86ps

1.2 TSI 105ps

1.6tdi 75ps

1.6tdi 105ps

Those are 'Asking Prices' on Autotrader and elsewhere.

No need to pay those prices, they are a sellers Wish & Dream.

Thanks again for reply... yes it was the 1.2 12v... would your choice be the monte carlo in the mk2? Which engine would you go? I know theres no such thing as trouble free motoring but i like to find the best of the bunch.. hence the mk1 vrs engine i currently have lol

Personally i would stick with the car you  have and know, and when there is one in your budget go for a Mk3 Monte Carlo 1.2 TSI.

Not a 1.4TDI 3 cylinder Mk3.

I bumped the 'tech' thread.

I still do not think you found a seller with a 1.2 12v 'Tech' just someone that does not know what it is,  just a Monte Carlo.

Which can be fine depending on the spec & optional extras that the car has.

Check with the description sellers give to Monte Carlo models.

Ive posted on the site awaoffski bumped, according to Parkers.

The tech models only came in 1.2 TSI (103) or 1.6 diesel (103)

All others had either

1.2 (68) 12v

1.2 TSI (84 or 103)

1.6 diesel (73 or 103)

Just the 'Tech' bit wrong it seems, First Registered October 2012 before the 'Tech' models were on sale,

unless a Skoda show car.

Seems OK.

Rear Brake binding advisory at the MOT so you would want to know if brakes serviced since or they need doing.

That is a common fault though.

Go drive a 1.2 12v 70 ps and see.

Sorry to anyone selling a 1.6TDI CR.   But avoid buying one that has had the Fix like the plague.

But then you do get the remainder of the 24 Month Trust Building  Measure Guarantee. but then that is from VW. so how much do you trust that!

As a limited edition , 500 1.2tsi plus 500 1.6 diesel, would they have edition plaque stating edition number. The seller should be able to quote that wouldn't he or she

They never had plaques.

& the produced more than they said they would.

But i have no idea about producing a Tech Edition before they were producing Tech editions.  So unless a model to show Dealers.

As to Monte Carlo's, they first registered i think 3 59ps models of them that were on the roads and sold used.

Must check

  • 2 weeks later...

The Monte Carlo Tech, afaik, has Sat Nav RNS315 and Maxidot.  That’s the easiest way to know.  These are of course available as options and therefore the seller may claim it is a tech.  That’s what I found when I was looking at them anyway.

i have the 1.6CR, if it’s had the fix then walk away.  If it’s not and it’s low mileage then it needs to have had regular oil changes as they last about 6000miles before the oil is completely contaminated with diesel.  Cambelt and water pump is at 5yrs and costs £400 if it’s not been done.  EGR valves seem to last around 70k miles, covered under Skoda warranty if it goes, otherwise £800+

i own a 1.6 and it’s remapped and it’s a great little car, I have to drive careful to get over 60mpg though, it won’t squeeze out the same as the new VW and Audi 1.6 bluelines, I wish it was 6spd.  If the 1.2tsi 105 is anything like the new Mk3 then I wish I’d got that engine.

on all engine models, check for a pull to the left.  It’s mostly the late 2013 models that do it.  A combination of poor rear toe alignment, tyres, and front castor/camber, all can be fixed but it takes a while and ££ to sort it.

Residual value of diesels may be less than petrols, however dealerships want the oil burners off their forecourts so there are bargains to be had, I got £1500 off mine, a new set of bridge stones, 2yrs Skoda warranty and 2yrs servicing.  We split the cost of the new floor mats which is when I knew I reached his limit.
