Towing with my Superb

Featured Replies

Hi,

How can I disconnect my rear parking sensors if I want to tow a caravan or use a bike rack on my Superb?

Can I simply remove a fuse?

My car has the factory wiring harness for the tow bar and is coded so it senses when I have a trailer plugged in and automatically deactivates the sensors.

You can can get aftermarket kits that allow you to do something along the lines of when a trailer is plugged in it uses a relay to disrupt the power to the parking sensors.  The oul fella had it fitted on his Passat a few years ago because he had the towbar added after he bought the car.

In in the meantime there is a mute option when I put the car in reverse you could perhaps use that?

Are you sure it senses, or is it rather that they get deactivated when you connect the plug (for the trailer lights)?

You have to connect the plug

I know how it works, just being rhetorical :)

Yes sorry I meant it senses when the trailer was connected to the towing socket.

I wasn’t very clear in my response!

Well I did wonder if you thought it had ‘special’ powers ;)

Is there a specific fuse which I can remove.

No. You need to install a vehicle specific wiring harness and code the parking control module to recognise that a towing control module is fitted. With this done, the trailer module detects when the trailer is plugged in and tells the parking control module to shut off the rear sensors and leave the front ones functioning as normal.
