New brakes

Featured Replies

Hi all, got a Mk1 Fabia vRS and just taken it in for a health check at the Skoda dealership. They spotted that my brake calipers were sticking or something as well as pads being worn. They quoted £1100 for front and back to be sorted out and wanted to know whether this was a reasonable price or should I invest time looking elsewhere?

Alternatives might be doing them myself or buying the a new/second hand set of brakes and getting them to replace it, if so, any recommendations as to of where to get a whole set of new brakes for my 2005 Fabia. Cheers.

All I'm saying.

Sounds very expensive....you could nearly get another VRS for that!!

Is it the front or rear calipers sticking?

Rears are common and probably quite cheap on eBay for new/reconditioned units.

If the fronts are needed replacing you might want to look at doing a 312mm brake upgrade. If you do a search youll see what I mean by that.

That is a hell of a lot of money to pay for brakes though.

Hideous price but to be expected from a dealer. I doubt they would be allowed to fit parts you supply yourself either. And most certainly not used parts.

Given that the price is for all four discs, pads all round, at least one rear and one front caliper plus all new brake fluid and labour it doesn't seem that crazy a price using OEM parts.

I would definitely take the car to an independent VAG specialist, there's bound to be one nearby, the bill will be half that dealer quote.

May be heck the brake pipes? I had to change on the left rear, and brake tube to.
