Curry hook for a Fabia 5J Estate

Featured Replies

If you want to fit curry hooks to a base model Fabia, you need Torx  T25 and T15  screwdrvers, Allen keys, large flat blade screwdriver and the curry hooks themselves. I didn't investigate the dealer for curry hooks , although it is usually worth enquiring as some things are surprisingly cheap. I got mine from fleabay £15 for the pair, posted. Search for any model as they are common throughout the range. One of mine is marked up as a Fabia item, one from a Superb.

Take out the rectangular blanking plates to reveal the fixing bolt and undo it with a T25.

Remove the load cover and this reveals a T25 headed self tapper.

Pull off the tailgate aperture seal and remove the D pillar plastic trim by inserting a wide bladed screwdriver at the bottom and, using a rag to protect the car, levering between the  plastic trim and the bodywork. As you do this all the clips securing the trim will become apparent the further you ease the panel off. The  picture shows the back of the trim to show  the clips and fixings.WP_20180423_09_21_05_Pro.thumb.jpg.37c191a320c3234a5d2398d6c97c21db.jpg

Once the trim is off you will see a hidden T25 self tapper to remove.

Now remove to plastic rivet holding the side trim to the trim below the tailgate latch by levering the centre out with a screwdriver then levering the rivet itself out. Now remove the plastic bolt securing the tail light( undo with a 2p peice or an Allen key) and the luggage net securing hook (T15 screw) below it

WP_20180423_09_43_34_Pro.thumb.jpg.171e8d5cd2d5be93e05991c6aeb7ead2.jpgRemove the vertical panel forming the storage compartment at the sides of the boot, if fitted ,by pulling sharply up to make the whole side trim panel more flexible.

There is a section at its top rear edge normal covered by the D pillar trim which will need to be eased out with the screwdriver and this allows you to pull the side panel away enough to get your hand in. You can manoeuvre the curry hook in behind the trim and line it up with the hole left by removing the blanking plug. The metal component of the hook goes behind the formed plastic of the trim panel  and the hook part should be in the 'down' position.

Now hold the hook with your free hand and withdraw the other hand from behind the panel letting the trim panel spring back in place. Bang back in the top rear corner ( that you eased out earlier with the screwdriver) then replace all the screws, the light fixing bolt and the plastic rivet. Adjust the position of the hook before finally tightening this bolt up so that it folds in and out smoothly,

Replace the D pillar trim by lining up all the clips  and banging home with the heel of your hand. Slide  the compartment side panel back down and replace the rubber seal making sure that the lip section covers the trim edges properly.

A bit fiddly but not that difficult. Probably more difficult describing it than doing it. Go carefully and treat the hidden clips and fixings with respect so you don't break anything. It's pretty robust but don't over rely on it being indestructible. The result is worth the hour that it will take you

Luckily, my model had them fitted from the start... I have noticed though, that the parcel shelf carriers, (The black plastic knobs that the shelf clips on to) Have started to crack. Not sure if this is common or not but it may entail rmoval and either repair or replacing the panels to correct this. Bumpers!

Does anyone have the exact part number for these hooks? I had them in my previous Fabia but not in this one and they were very useful. Thanks!
