Emeregency Service Vehicles protocol.

Ambulance Techs & Paramedics are both Response trained.  Not sure about Fire Brigade staff though.

There is actually no rule to state you MUST have training to drive on Blue Lights, but obviously in the world of Health & Safety Emergency Services have training courses for this :)

If on blues then the Fire brigade are response trained, anyone can drive "grey" fleet but not use the blues unless properly trained.

I see the problem hinted at, in town fairly often.  A LOT of people react to an emergency vehicle like a fainting goat which just ends up slowing the emergency vehicle.

What would you do at a red traffic light with a Gatso camera controlling it?,go through the red light, get flashed and receive 3 points or hold the ambulance up until the light goes green?.

Going through a red light into traffic being controlled by a green light isn't something I'd consider, otherwise you run the risk of becoming another ambulance passenger (not to mention the fine and penalty points). I would suspect the ambulance would be better equipped to run red lights given the flashing blue lights and sirens, and they're trained as such.

Going through the red light will get you 3 points and a fine, saying you did it to let an emergency service vehicle pass is not accepted as a reason - there have been test cases in the press.

The ambulance (or WHY) will find a safe way through - that's what they are trained to do.

That's an easy one. Sit there regardless of whether there's a camera or not, because there is no defence against crossing the Stop line against the light even if you are on a blue light run. (Charges will be waived if you are unless you cause a crash)

Apparently you can only go through a red light with the say so of a police officer and get off with prosecution.

On the direct instruction of a Police Officer you may go through a red light. It's a point of argument whether a Police car with lights and sirens behind you is a direct instruction or not.

Ehh...nudge to the kerb to give him space to get around you.. unless your in a lorry you can 90% of the time find a few feet and inches at a jctn to make room without fouling the stopping line.

@Rustynuts, you missed out the (fairly obvious IMHO) third option of why the Paramedic was tapping the mirror; there was a spider there obscuring the drivers rear vision :)

Anyway, this a very good training video

And let it run afterwards; the next several I got were worked examples from 3rd party cameras and an in cab camera on something (I think ambulance) driven by someone getting response training.
