VW tech in a Skoda...

VW developed this for the Mk7 Golf but Audi wanted to showcase it, being the 'premium' badge in the group.  Apparently VW bosses weren't happy.

Except it's not. Screen is smaller and the options a much more limited.

EDIT oops replied yo the wrong person

I’m not sure I really want a Superb, unless it’s a well specc’d 280.  I’d like one of those very much

Haha, it’d only be a well specc’d 280 if I was to have one, but I’m still not sure. Will keep the vRS a while longer and see either way :)

I really like the look of this! Part of me is tempted to hold off getting a nearly new MY18 vRS and wait for a MY19

for retrofit you must change the gateway to 3Q0 and the 9,2" Columbus is important. retrofit in germany  is possible.

Does it *need* the 9.2" Columbus?

I'm hoping to do this shortly, but I'm not sure if I can with the hardware I already have. I have the 8" MIB2 Columbus, and it definitely has an optical output, yet you have said that the 9.2" is important. Is it 'important and necessary', or 'important but will still work with the 8".'

you dont need the 9.2 ive seen it installed with the 8" touch screen. I think the headunit has to be from a FL mib2.5?

Correct, you can have it with the 5Q0035874C Amundsen but then you don’t get the 3D maps. If you have to upgrade the unit it makes sense to co Columbus. My VC install uses a MIB2 Columbus upgraded to MIB2.5 spec. You can have a MIB2 modified to run a VC.

Can this be done on 17 plate octavia SEL

I'm guessing from the above that people love this option? I'm potentially ordering new, so could spec it, but at £450 it isn't cheap (but waaaaay cheaper than retrofit...). Slippery slope re options. I was hoping to keep fairly sparse, but keeping thinking about adding stuff. I like some of the old-skool stuff in the Octy (eg. mechanical handbrake!), so might just keep analogue dials and save the £450.

Virtual Cockpit, KESSY and Electronic Handbrake NO THANKS. I prefer the manual way, call me a DINOSAUR. Almost forgot Electric Sunroof and Reversing Camera rather than DSG. Not quite ready for all the pleasures of retirement quite yet.

I don't have a electric parking brake on mine that would've killed off the chance of me buying the car for starters.

Kessy is nice now albeit with some security issues (I keep the key shielded), you're right about the VC it's not worth it and I'd swap it for the reversing camera instead. I'm keeping DSG always, manual boxes are now a faff, DSG makes things so easy, except in very snowy conditions, but we don't get them very often and the addition of winter tyres helps mitigate against those.

You must be nearer to retirement than me with a comment such as "makes things so easy". Walking frame next on your bucket list.:nerd:

My right hip is knackered and both knees have shot cruciate ligaments, one has medial ligament damage.

Tbqh I wish I could chop the legs off at times and replace them with caterpillar tracks, they give me so much pain and discomfort.

I better buy you that Walking frame now then rather than wait until Xmas.:time:

How about an appointment with the knackers yard instead?

so does MIB2.5 natively run the VC without having to get all the coding done by pab?
