Standard Nav On VRS

Featured Replies

What's the standard nav / infotainment system on the new facelifted VRS? I can't find categorical answers online!

Does it come with SmartLink+ as standard that supports CarPlay?

Amundsen system is standard fit and it does have Smartlink (CarPlay etc).

As above. 8” screen.

Thank you! I did think it was, but finding out conclusively wasn't the easiest thing!

Does the 8" touch screen fit a Pre Facelift Amundsen Sat Nav Unit in a Vrs

Only if the Amundsen is a MIB2 version not a MIB1 version.

As noted, the FL uses the Amundsen with an 8 inch screen and no soft keys. If you have a pre FL, post MY16 (or a Columbus from any Mk3) you can just plug in the 8 inch FL screen and it will work. I have an Amundsen running a pre FL Columbus screen in my car.

Sasha - I'm at risk of beating a dead horse here, but does that mean that even a face lift 8" touch screen will just plug right into my pre-FL '16 car and work properly with capacitive buttons and all? I've got a bolero with smartlink (that makes it a MIB2, right)? Does it need any coding / VCDS fun, or is it truly plug and play?

Yes the FL screen is plug and play, no coding, no component protection. You used to be able to get them from cars-equipment.com but now they are only stocking the 9.2 inch Columbus screens. A breakers yard is the best bet, look for an FL car that’s been in an accident. The only thing is that the APP button won’t work, but you can select SmartLink as you would now in the Main Menu. I paid £200 for my Pre FL Columbus screen and I would say that’s about the going rate for 8 inch screens :)

My FL screen arrived today! like @SashaGrace says £200 would be the going rate also the lighting is white not green like the pre FL you will need the shave a bit of the male plug to fit into the female connection but nothing major

Does anyone actually use the standard nav that's in the car, or do you carplay/android auto? Just wondering if it's any good.

I never use the standard nav. I’ve usually got my location looked up and set before I’ve even left the house. No faffing with postcodes etc when in the car. I do miss the instructions on the maxidot though. CarPlay doesn’t give you them. Only main screen instructions.

I'll add that also you don't have the lane position either with carplay/AA but i prefer the maps on either as they are updated regularly compared to 3-6 month updates on standard sat nav system.

As another view on this, I put the addresses in ŠKODA connect before leaving leaving the house and they show up in the car as soon as the WiFi connects - maybe 20 secs. The WiFi also brings the speedy traffic info so I  get spoken traffic advisory info too before even turning left or right out of my road - good stuff. Didn’t plug my phone in either.

Pretty sure latest Apple Maps has Lane Guidance if that’s what you mean.

Yeah that’s what I meant but that doesn’t come up on the mfd if you’re using thier maps or AA,

It does, and annoyingly CarPlay can theoretically send info to the Maxidot, but it’s not supported by Apple.

Can you tell me please " How can I tell if I have a MIB1 Version "

If your car is pre MY16 and you have the smallest 5.8 inch touchscreen. There’s quite a lip around the bezel on those, the 6.5 inch one has much less of a lip. Also, if you have SmartLink, you have a MIB2.

Thanks for that, My 230 is a 66 plate ( October ).  I'll have a look later

Ah ok, yeah lack of guidance info on the Maxidot is an annoyance for sure, particularly as the screen is quite low down in the dash.

Any skoda built post week 22 in 2015 is MIB II and should be capable of smartlink etc.

I always use the Amundsen MIB1 that's in my 2015 Elegance.

It's not wonderful and there are better sat navs and apps out there but it's reasonably well integrated into the car systems (directions on MFD) and always gets us to where we need to be.
